My heart pounded as I dialed Devon's number, my fingers trembling. The phone rang twice before he picked up. "Grace," he answered, his voice calm and collected. It made my skin crawl. "Devon," I replied, trying to keep my voice steady. "We need to talk. In person." "Why? So you can set me up with Nico and his goons?" His tone was mocking, but there was an underlying tension. "No, I just... I need to understand. Why are you doing this? Why are you threatening Nico?" I could hear my voice breaking, and I hated how vulnerable I sounded.
