Why Not

The sound of someone talking pulled me out of my sleep, but my head is pounding way too hard for me to want to open my eyes. I slowly fluttered them open turning my head the side to avoid the light shining on them. What happen? Did I pass out from the fall or the blood loss? Oh right I remember now! That freaking doctor stuck me with a needle putting me to sleep. I’m going to kick his butt next time I see him and that nurse of his too. The pounding in my head is truly unbearable.

I closed my eyes hoping that would help with the headache, maybe I’ll take a nap. That normally helps when I have a headache, I tried to drift back to sleep but that talking was getting louder. I raised my hand to cover my eyes when I noticed an IV needle in my elbow. I quickly yanked it out causing an alarm to go off, I looked up and around to see I was in a room with a curtain to my right. The curtain moved revealing El looking a little mad at me; Ezra peeked through the curtain at me before walking over to me. He a soft smile on his face before as he approached me, I’m going to wipe that smile right off his face.

He reached to grab the IV needle out of my hand causing me to smack him across his face. He looked a little mad that I just smacked him but I mean come on he shoved freaking a needle in my arm. I totally just smacked that smile of his stupid face; all he had to do was talk to me and make sure I don’t see the needle. He turned his head to face me before grabbing the needle out my hand, he turned to my machine I was hook up to turning it off. I slowly sat up placing my hand on my head, he held out his hand for my arm. I shook my head crossing my arms over my chest.

“Aundreya just let him put it back in your arm.” El said

“No, forget him and his little stupid needles.” I said refusing to turn away from him; I know she probably told him the proper way to handle needles around me.

“Ms. Johnson if you continue to refuse I will have no choice but to strap you down and hold you there until we’re done treating the mild concussion.” He said

“Dre please I have news to tell you.” She said I slowly turned my head to her; she was smiling softly at me. “I’ll only tell you if you let him help you.” She added tilting her head to the side, I groaned lowly before holding my arm out for him. “Thank you Dre, I swear sometimes I feel like you’re the baby sister and I’m the older sister.”

“What is your news Elena?” I asked as I felt a small pinch in my arm. The sound of tape ripping filled the room before a piece was placed over the needle.

“We confirmed what is wrong with me. I do have that autoimmune disease but it is a chance for me to outgrow it as long I take care of myself. Also if I follow the rules given to me after my treatments I could live a pretty normal life.” She said holding out her hand for me to grab, I smiled at her reaching out to grab her hand.

“What are your rules?” I asked

“I can’t go near anyone who is sick or who has an infection, wash my hands and brush my teeth regularly and make sure I get my annual flu shot.” She said

“Also… she needs to keep warm as the cold environment could trigger a breakdown in her blood cells.” Ezra said

“But winter is coming soon, she can still has school and” —

“We have a plan, just until I can move somewhere warm. I can do my winter classes and internships online if I could get everyone to understand the circumstance, maybe we can work something out.” She said I don’t have the heart to tell her that might not work. She might have to move to finish school.

“What did I tell you Ms. Johnson?” Ezra asked walking over to sit in the chair between both of the beds. He was facing both of us looking at El with a stern look his face; he is holing a pair of gloves in his hand.

“Not to get my hopes up, I might have to move to finish school and everything.” She mumbled before rolling her eyes.

“I know…” she said releasing my hand turning to Ezra. He nods his head, “We start my treatment tomorrow.” She said

“Why tomorrow? Why not today?” I asked

“Because it 2 am, and I would like to go home for a few hours of sleep.” Ezra said I turned to him rolling my eyes. “Don’t get sassy with me I’ll give you another shot.” He said with a smirk on his face. “Drop the attitude; I’m exhausted after dealing with you and having to do testing on your sister.” He said before standing up.

“I think you should talk to my sister like that more often. She likes a man who can take charge.” El said holding back her laughter. His eyes widen before shaking his head, yeah a lot of people fail to realize when El and I are together for too long we’re a handful to deal with.

“El shut up or I’m texting your boyfriend that your hitting on your doctor.” I said, her eyes widen as her jaw dropped.

“We are not dating; I like Michael as a brother.” She said pouting.

“Yeah and I’m 5 feet tall without my heels.” I said sarcastically turning to face away from her. I noticed my purse on the chair next to Ezra. “Please hand me my purse.” I said to Ezra, El yelled no trying to jump out of bed.

“Stop it both of you.” He said pointing at both El before moving to his finger over to me. “Do not make me regret putting you 2 in the same room. Daniel asked me to keep you two together and I’m trying to respect that.” He said before walking over to the door. I smiled turning to El as she sat back down in her bed, she turned to me smiling. She knows what I thinking of doing, she nods her head before turning to Ezra as he reached the door.

“Yes Daddy Ezra!” She yelled causing me to burst out laughing as he just turned to face us.

“…You two… are going to make me say something inappropriate. Goodnight and don’t give my staff a hard night please?” he asked before walking out the door, I turned to El as she wiped the tears from her eyes from laughing so hard.

“I hope you two are happy together.” El said turning to face me, what does she mean by that. “I know what happened on the other side of the door earlier.” My face suddenly turned warm as she started giggling, “I tried to stop Alice from opening the door but she wanted to see if I have something to eat. So what kind of kisser is he? I bet he kisses are intense, like everything around you just stops.” She asked like a teenager at a sleepover.

“We didn’t kiss, he just whispered into my ear.” I said her eyes widen before she turned to the door and back to me. What is she worried about? He is her doctor I’m going to be dating anyone until after she done with treatment.

“She opened the door too early.” El mumbled looking shocked what did she see? Elena likes scrying when she bored that’s probably why she’s pushing so hard for me to get closer to him all of a sudden.

“When did you start scrying again?” I asked

“While Daniel was talking to Alice about bringing the kids up for the weekend, I look into her coffee when she wasn’t looking. I saw him kissing you against the door.” She said

“Here? El that’s too soon to be seeing that, it could in a week or a month or a year.” I said

“He was in his doctor coat.” She said

“Elena remember it’s just seeing the future you don’t know when in the future.” I said she sighed leaning back against her pillows. I smiled as she rolled her eyes, “Don’t give up on your magic just yet. It may happen, it may not happen don’t worry scrying it tricky, just don’t depend so heavily upon it.” I said I know its frustrating for her to use her magic right now; I smiled softly remembering when I first started scrying. I used it every day hoping to see how El would turn out if we stayed with those monsters or if we were on our own. I was so frustrated and angry but then I learned nothing is set in stone for us, things are likely to change at any point.

“I just want you to be happy and find love. Stop worrying about me so much, live your own life and have fun.” She said turning her head to me.

“That’s what I want for you too, but first let’s get through this together as the goddess intended for us. Then we can talk about moving you somewhere warm, keeping you healthy.” I said

“Fine but you gotta stop turning Dr. Valentine down, go on one date and if you hate it then fine I’ll never bring it up again.” She said

“Only if you be honest with your feelings about Michael. He’s a great kid and he really does care about you.” I said

“I know but I want it to happen naturally like we’re doing right now.” She said smiling as she drifted off into thoughts about him. “We’re taking things slow so it would be nice if you all would stop pressuring us.” I knew it they’re waiting until they're done with school to give it a try. They’re secretly dating but they don’t want everyone to know until after they’re done with school. I can respect that, I guess it would help if we stopped trying to push it on them. They’ll be happy to tell us we just have to stop pushing, I sighed before lying back down on the bed.

“As long as you’re happy, I’m happy.” I said before smiling looking up at the ceiling.

“Thanks for the support sister, get some rest, we have a long few months ahead of us.” She said I closed my eyes listening to both of our heart rate monitors.

The last week has been going pretty smoothly, El's treatment is coming along nicely; Ezra has been working hard to get her back to somewhat normal. I went back to work after being discharged from the hospital. I knew I could trust him with her, and I will keep my word to El to now worry so much about her. I still want to help but I can’t do anything to help Ezra and the nurse Brickner. I did bring her, her phone and her computer so she can communicate with her teachers. They understand that under the circumstances she may not be in class but if they could stream the classes for her. She’s more then welcome to continue taking her classes; she was so excited to get back to class.

Her internship is being delayed so she sad about that but she understands it’s for her health. I smiled as Lysander stood up to stretch from the couch, I looked up at the time it's almost time to head back and do dinner. Luckily for me, Alice has been helping with cooking so I could go and check on El if needed. I told her she doesn’t have to but she enjoys it, told me night I had to stay after busting my head open; the twins helped her cook dinner for everyone. It’s so nice knowing that everyone is finally living their best life. My phone dinged as I stood up from the couch, it was a message from El.

I opened it to see a picture of Ezra in blue hospital scrubs with his hair pulled back under some type of cloth he was handling her heart rate monitor. I don’t think he noticed she took a picture of him. He’s wearing a face mask and his glasses; he rarely wears them only when he’s been working too much. Yes, we’ve been talking more, not about El or work but just about ourselves. I learn he wears glasses and his favorite thing to do when he’s not working is go for a run. He likes to eat sushi and anything sweet, I’ll have to get him eating something else beside sugar.

His grew up between both the human and magical world, so when vacation time comes he enjoys going to the human world. Both of his parents are alive and are currently living near some mountain in Japan. He knows how to cook but he never really has time to cook unless it’s a slow day at the hospital. He has tonight off and wants to hangout with me after his done with El, I told him I don’t know of I’ll be off in enough time to hang with him. He said he would join me with cleaning the kitchen and if he gets done with El in enough time, join me for dinner. I told him I have Saturday off and we could do lunch but he wants to do it tonight.

I looked at the time to see it’s time to get back to work, I quickly sent a rolling eyes emoji before jumping up from the couch. I slipped on my chunky heels before walking over to the door with Ly right behind me. I opened the door only to get hit on my chest, I looked up to see Ezra looking shocked before removing his hand from my chest. Wait a minute isn’t he supposed to working on El right now? What is he doing here? He must have seen the confused look on my face before holding a purple teddy bear. How did he know I like stuffed animals?

“Elena told me you like stuffed animals,” he said shrugging his shoulders; I smiled grabbing the bear from him. “I know you still have to cook dinner so I was hoping to help you.” He said I shook my head smiling at him. Just give him a chance Dre, you promised El you would give him a try. So why not give him a chance? He’s trying and now that El has told him my type he’s trying to change himself to that.

“Is this your way of asking me on a date while I work?” I asked he nods his head smiling at me; he’s so different when he isn’t wearing his doctors’ coat. He’s shy, not confident in himself and sweet but when he’s wearing it, it’s like a different person. He’s confident in himself, a bit of a sadist; he’s a little mean and pushy. I don’t know if I like Dr. Valentine or Ezra better, maybe like a mix of both of them would be perfect.

“A little bit but mostly because I just wanted to see you.” He said I chuckled shaking my head. “It’s not a date because I haven’t asked you out; I have just want to hang out.” He said

“Well come on or I’m going to be late.” I said stepping out the house, Ly walked passed me and towards the mansion. He’s a little mad about Ezra just dropping by and taking all of my attention from him. He’s such a little baby I swear, Ezra and I started walking towards the mansion.

“You should lock your door.” He said

“Have you been inside?” I asked he shook his head, “Well my protection barrier is working then.” I said as we entered the kitchen, Jacob was in the kitchen digging around for something in my fridge. “Jacob!” yelled causing him to jump turning his head to me, he has a black eye. Oh goddess who did he get into a fight with?

“Before you asked it was with Parker and he’s training to be boxer.” Jacob said

“So anyone is allowed in your kitchen?” Ezra asked

“Jacob is the butler, on his free time and before meeting the Wilsons he was a professional boxer.” I said

“Yeah but then I decided I want guys to hit something else on me besides my face. Speaking of hitting something, hello who is this hottie?” Jacob said pulling out my muscle relaxer potion.

“Jacob this is Dr. Ezra Valentine he’s is Elena’s doctor and my ex stalker.” I said his eyes widen and his mouth dropped before he turned to me.

“Ezra f*****g Valentine? The billionaire doctor who is the hottest vampire on the plant? That’s him?” Jacob asked as I walked over to the sink to wash my hands. “I swear if you’re lying I’m going to kick your ass.” Jacob said

“Jacob watch the swearing please, and yes that’s him say hi instead of being weird.” I said washing my hands; Jacob turned Ezra as he just smiled.

“Hello Jacob, nice to meet you.” Ezra said holding out his hand to shake. I pulled out the pre-made butternut squash raviolis I made a week ago for days like this. Everyone will be eating in their own rooms because Daniel is in a business meeting he can’t get out of. Parker is training to be boxers he’s working out a lot, Madison is studying. Samuel and Michael are working on some secret project for Samuel’s school. Alice is the only one who isn’t busy but she hasn’t been feeling her best lately so she’s in bed resting. The soup I had simmering for Alice is ready, I turned the burner off, I made her a just a simple chicken noodle soup.

“My God I can’t believe I’m in the same room as a hot billionaire like you.” Jacob said

“I’m just a normal vampire please don’t make a big deal out this.” Ezra said as Jacob as take pictures of him. “Please don’t share those I’m trying to stay away from the paparazzi and news and all of that. I just want to remain anonymous.” Ezra said oh yeah something else I learn is that Ezra also has never revealed his face to the public. They know his name but they don’t know what he looks like. He actually goes by a different name at work and in public, only his personal assistant, nurse Brickner, the Wilsons, Me and El and now Jacob. Oh and of course his family, Jacob turned to me in shock with his jaw on the floor.

“You’re dating someone out everyone’s league. How? I mean I have never heard of someone getting as lucky as you.” He said

“We’re not dating just…I don’t know… hanging out I guess.” I said shrugging as I got a pot of water on the burners. Ezra came up behind me placing his hand on my hip before turning to whisper in my ear.

“Your friend is weird, how do I get him to stop taking pictures of me?” he whispered in my ear.

“Jacob I’ll tell Daniel about the party you threw a week ago.” I said turning to Jacob, he was taking picture of us from behind. Jacob put his phone down with a panic look on his face, he can’t afford to mess up before Parker finishes his training. If he can stay out of trouble until Parker wins his first boxing match Daniel will wipe both Parker and Jacob’s slates clean. That means Parker won’t be kicked out and doesn’t have to go to school and Jacob won’t get fired. “Don’t tell anyone or share those pictures.” I said

“Fine, deal. Can I keep them? I really like some of them.” He said I turned to Ezra and he nods his head. “Thank you.” Jacob said before running out the room. I really hope he doesn’t mess this up.

“Alright let’s get down to business.” I said turning back to Ezra.

“To defeat the Huns?” he asked holding back a smile, I smiled widely at him shaking my head, I swear I feel like I’m going to regret telling him my favorite Disney movie to sing along to is Mulan.
