Goddess Hekate

The worst part of having someone you love so much become sick is seeing them lying in a hospital bed with tubes coming out of their nose. This has always been something that I feared having to see every day. The beeping from her heart monitor filled the room along with my sniffles. I always made sure she was healthy never so much as had a cavity, she hated being so healthy but this, this right here, is my second biggest fear. Alice dropped me off so she could go and talk to the nurses since I haven’t been able to speak since the car right in. when I first saw her like this my heart just broke, it literally just shattered into millions of little pieces. I haven’t felt this numb in so long, I don’t know what to say or do.

I can’t even run because I always swore I would never leave her. That’s why I can never say goodbye to her, I always say see you later or see you soon because I never want to say goodbye. If I say it I feel I’ll never see her again, El understands it that why she always says it with me. They told me and Alice that she had some autoimmune disease, I didn’t care I just wanted to see my sister more than anything. I just needed to make sure she was alive and okay, I rubbed her cheek softly leaning up to place a kiss on her forehead. My sweet little sister, this is entirely my fault if I had just never left out the session or just answered your phone calls.

You wouldn’t be here; you would be in your apartment getting ready for class. Instead  you’re  here lying in a hospital bed, another is nothing I can do to help. Just sit here and wait like everyone else. I cant even protect my own sister, how can I be so useless? I haven’t felt this useless since she was born, since before I found my magick. I have always felt strong since the goddess Hekate found me and helped me grow. I know you’re thinking how did she find me and the other way around?

 Well I called out for anyone, to anyone to help me and she answered me. She helped my magick grow stronger thus giving me the confidence to protect myself and my sister. She never asked for anything in return other then my complete and total devotion to her. When the time came for El to start developing her magick I moved us to a coven that worships Hekate. Hekate embraces our worship and we embrace her gifts. I never once questioned her until today, I know this will bring us closer to her but why the punishment? Why my sister? I have always offered myself over her. A hand on my shoulder caused me to jerk away from the hand.

“Dre, visiting hours are over.” Alice said I turned my head to face her never letting go of El’s hand. “I know you want to stay but I can’t and the nurses want to come in check on her vitals.” Alice said

“Okay they can come in.” I said shrugging my shoulders.

“They need you to leave for a minute. They said you can wait outside the door but they need to help her.” Alice said I shook my head turning it back to face El.

“I can’t leave her. Not again.” I said

“Listen I completely understand what is going on dear. When Sam was in the hospital for 2 months after he was born I never left the hospital. But you have to let them help her or she’ll never get better.” Alice said I turned to the door to see the nurses standing at the doorway. I nod my head before standing up from the chair. I smiled softly as Alice grabbed my hand, “Let’s go get you some hot tea and call the boys.” She said as we walked out the room, I turn back to El smiling.

“5 minutes and she should be set for the night.” One of the nurses said I started nodding my head as she walked over to El.

“I’ll see you soon Elena I promise.” I said the nurses entered the room nodding their heads to me; Alice walked me down the café to grab some food. Alice grabbed me some French fries and herbal tea. She just got a coffee for herself; we sat in a corner away from other people while she called Daniel to tell him what is going on. I ate the fries in silence as Alice talked to Daniel on the phone. She said something about the specialist coming in tomorrow to look over El’s case, to see what he can do to help.

“Please eat more of your fries and drink your tea. Then I’ll walk you back to room.” Alice said I looked at my plate I only ate 3 fries. “You need to eat Dre, if not I’ll knock you out and take you home.” She said holding her hand over the receiver of her phone.

“I’m not hungry but I know you’ll actually hit me so I’ll eat this one time.” I started eating more fries watching her as she talked on the phone to Daniel.

“Thank you,” she said be removing her hand. “So he’ll be in tomorrow to help treat Ellie, he’s apparently the best hope Ellie has… Dre is healing, she’s still fighting me but I understand how she feels so my feelings are not hurt… She’s going to stay the night and I’ll be back after I walk her to Ellie’s room.” She said smiling looking down at my plate. I looked down at my plate to see it was empty; I smiled before picking up my warm tea. I started drinking the tea as she said goodbye to Daniel. I finished my tea putting the empty cup on my empty plate. “Thank you, come on lets go get you settled in with your sister.” She said standing up I grabbed my empty dirty dishes taking them over to the area to for dirty dishes.

“Thank you,” I said as a man came up to grab the dishes, He smiled at me nodding his head. I turn to Alice as she held out her hand, I know she’s not babying me she’s trying to comfort me. It’s working; I’m feeling nothing but motherly love from her and honestly I need it more than anything right now. I never felt this love until I met Alice, don’t get me wrong the women who helped in our coven were great. They just didn’t love and protect us emotionally and mentally the way Alice has.

When Alice first found out my birthday she had a small party with El and all my friends. I couldn’t believe the lengths she went through to make me feel like part of the family. She always got me a Yule gift, birthday gifts. I always have to remind her I’m just a cook but she sees me as her daughter. My guess because she also see El as her daughter and she lives in a house with 4 other males. We walked back to El’s room I could see her room is dark, there is a blanket and pillow in the chair next to El’s bed. I smiled walking over to her placing a kiss on her head, as Alice turned the lights on. “I told you I would see you later.” I whispered to her before turning to Alice.

“Bed time, it’s 12am and I need to leave.” She said I walked over to my bed for the night; I sat in the chair pulling the blanket on top of me. I turned to grab El’s hand leaning my head on the pillow. “I’ll be back probably with Daniel, maybe Michael. Please if you need anything call me have the nurses call me. Don’t overdo it; just…take care of yourself. Always don’t worry about work I have some spear time, we can do some cooking while you take care of your sister.” She said I nod my head turning to face her; I turned back to El watching her sleep.

“Thank you Alice, for everything.” I said

“Anything for family dear.” The sound of a camera shutter caused me to turn see Alice taking a picture. I looked at her in confusion as she took another picture. “You’ll thank me after all of this gets better. I’ll see you in a few hours.” She said before leaving.

“I’ll see you soon.” I said as she turned off the light, I turned back to El smiling softly.  “Oh Elena, I need you to wake up.” I said the beeping from her machine. I looked up at the ceiling, closing my eyes as I lightly squeezed her hand. “Goddess hear my cries, my sister has committed no crimes. Spear her health and life for mine. Protect my sister for she is innocent and punish me for my sins.” I said I turned back to my sister  smiling softly. I closed my eyes drifting off to sleep.

The sun shining down on me as I laid in the middle of a grassy field. I turned my head to see a shadowy figure laying next to me. The sun blinding me from seeing the person, they sat up and leaned to place a kiss on my forehead. This isn’t El she never kisses me, they pulled away casting a shadow over me. Those green eyes look so familiar, I smile leaning up to kiss them on lips. I looked around the field to see wild flowers and Lysander chasing a butterfly, this feeling, its weird I don’t understand it. Everything in life my seems to be going right, I feel so carefree and loved. The feeling of just being content with everything the future my bring me, I turned to the shadowy figure smiling.

“Three more weeks until we say I do.” I said as he pushed a strand of my hair out of my face. I licked his finger when he moved his hand down my cheek. He chuckled softly leaning over to lick the tip of my nose. I love that we can be silly around each other not worried about someone thinks of us. I haven’t felt so carefree since our first date, he is honestly terrible at planning so we just winged the whole thing. And honestly the best date I’ve ever had and that’s just how we were dating, with both of our schedules being weird. We literally pretty much moved into my little cottage until my vacation time comes up then I go over to his place.

“I cant wait to make you my wife.” He said I looked back up to the sky closing my eyes, I giggled before jumping up to me feet. I started running towards the trees hearing him close behind me, I ran around a large weeping willow tree stopping as soon as he grabbed my wrist.  He stopped me right in front of him, he smiled looking down at me as I leaned up against the tree. “I love you,” He said leaning his head on my forehead.

“I love you too.” I said as the wind blew, I wrapped my arms around him as he wrapped his arms around my waist pulling closer to him. My heart started to swell up as I rested my head on his chest. He rocked us slowly around in a circle humming a song, I looked up at him as he stared off into the distance. I never want this feeling to end I finally feel complete and I know on our wedding day I will have this feeling forever.

The sound of 3 different voices pulled me out of my sleep, I slowly opened my eyes to see that Alice and Daniel standing over El. They must have been telling Michael to go get something to eat or drink. I wonder what time it is? What time did they get here? I closed my eyes hoping to get a little bit more rest. When the third voice filled the room, it’s another woman’s voice. I raised my head smiling, to see El was talking to them. I sat up causing everyone to turn to me, I quickly wrapped my arms around El. She chuckled before rubbing my back softly, Alice giggled before patting my head. I pulled away looking down at my little sister with so much pride and happiness.

“Aundreya, I love you but don’t you ever offer your life in place of my mine.” She said punching me in the stomach. I groan before standing up straight before looking up at Alice and Daniel. “She offered the goddess Hekate her life and soul for mine. So I could live and be happy, while she suffers.” El said turning to Alice. Alice gasp covering her mouth in shock, Daniel’s eyes widen looking at me.

“Dre!!”Daniel yelled, I held up my hands in defeat.

“I was upset and I just wanted to hear your voice.” I said turning to El. “El I’m so sorry about yesterday. I just am not ready to go down that path yet. I want to know everything I’ve done is to protect you.” I said

“Al let’s go get coffee you didn’t sleep to well.” Daniel said, they left closing the door behind them.

“Dre, your past is just as much my past, I wake up crying because a new memory popped up.” She said I didn’t know that. I wish she had told me I would have talked to her about it, so she’s not so scared and confused about them.

“I know and I know I should tell you everything so you understand why I hate them. But Lena, I mean El, if I tell you you’ll never look at them the same… or me.” I said she shook her head smiling at me.

“I would never, Aundreya you raised me, protected me, cloth me, fed me, you worked at the age of 16 to take care of us. I would never look at you different because I’ve only ever seen you as my mother. I know you’re not but hell you raised me when our mom wouldn’t.” She said  

“El I promise if you ask me any question and I’ll answer them honestly.” I said

“Good because I have a lot and I know they’ll make you uncomfortable.” She said giggling, I sat in the chair before grabbing her hand. “I know it’s hard for you to relive all of that and I promise I’ll be more sensitive to your feelings.” She said

“So what do you want to know?” I asked as the door open. I turn thinking it was Alice and Daniel. Instead it was stalker boy wearing a doctors coat. He was looking at what I’m guessing is El's chart. He didn’t even notice we were staring at him, he looked up smiling at us before his eyes widen.

“Stalker boy!” El yelled before bursting out in laughter. His cheeks started to turn slightly pink before he stepped out the room. I turned to El as she continued laughing until tear started flowing from her eyes. “Y-your s-stalker is a doctor.” She said

“What stalker?” I turned to see Alice and Daniel walking into the room. “What stalker? You the guy who’s been buying you flowers?” Alice asked

“Yeah, I ran into him at Samuel’s and Madison’s birthday, then again at the market and then he showed up at my place.” I said

“And he’s here?! Now! I’m calling security.” Alice said storming out the room. Daniel shook his head before sitting on the opposite side of me.

“You’re not mad?” El asked

“Oh I knew about him, he’s an old business partner of mine. I helped him get his business up and running.” He said shrugging. “When Alice sees him she’ll stop and apologize.” He said

“What business?” El asked Daniel raised his eyebrows before looking between us. “We don’t know anything about him besides he’s a stalker.” She added

“I know he something about being a bachelor.” I said shrugging “I also know that he’s a vampire and needs to eat more cage free eggs.” I said they both looked at me strange causing me to look away from them.

“Ezra Valentine is not a stalker first, let me make that clear. Second he’s the youngest most eligible vampire bachelor. He built a company from the ground up while still working as a doctor full time.” Daniel said

“What’s the company?” I asked Daniel’s jaw hit the ground narrowing his eyes at me.

“What do you guys talk about?” He asked

“Wait you two are talking?” El asked well s**t I’m kind a situation I was hoping to ease into it. I bite my lower lip looking down at my hands. “Aundreya you’ve been texting him? Are you dating him.” She asked

“No I swear.” I said looking up at them, “He told me he would tell me where we met if I gave him my number. H…he never  did but we just talk about how corny he is and he asks me out on dates and we talk about our favorite Netflix shows.” I said

“Oh my goddess.” El said as Daniel shook his head.

“Look I’m not the stalker here, he followed me to the store” —

“That’s across the street from his favorite coffee shop.” Daniel said cutting me off well that explains why he was in a suit.

“Well what about him showing up on the property unannounced?” I asked

“He was invited to the party and he does come over to ask for advice.” Daniel said

“He can’t call?” El asked right? Why not call instead of showing up all of the time looking like a stalker? You text me all day you can call rather then showing up around me once a week.

“Believe it or not he’s very old school. Him asking you out after trying to get your attention is normal, trust me no one has ever gotten his attention before.” He said

“So you caught the attention of an old school vampire?” El asked giggling. My cheeks started to feel hot before I sat back in my chair, I looked at my phone to see I had 20 text messages from him.

“I should probably go talk to him huh?” I asked

“Well since he’s probably my doctor for this whole thing I would. I don’t want him to mess up my health just because you don’t want to put out for him.” El said

“Elena?!” I yelled covering my face from her as she started cackling at me, oh my goddess I cant believe my sister said that to me.

“Don’t blush to much in front of him, he’ll smell the blood and want to marry you.” Daniel said joking, I stood up from the chair walking over to him, I smacked him upside his head. I honestly don’t care if he’s my boss he’s being mean to me. Daniel started laughing as I walked over to the door. “Hurry up before Al finds him.” Daniel said I opened the door to see stalker boy standing there still blushing. Why is he— oh my goddess did he hear us?!

“I guess we should talk.” I stated he shook his head holding up El's chart.

“I have to work but after we can talk.” He said I smiled nodding my head. I moved to the side so he could enter, both El and Daniel are dying of laughter. I closed the door behind him before going back to my seat.

“Hello Miss. Johnson, I’m going to be helping you through this whole thing. My name is Dr. Ezra Valentine and no I’m not a heart specialist.” Ezra said Daniel is now in the corner laughing himself to death. El is trying her hardest to not laugh as she shook Ezra’s hand; I’m going to kill them both.
