Chapter 34 – The Fire and the Star
Kael reached the Blue Moon border by nightfall.
He had walked without stopping, the flame within him burning away his exhaustion. Wolves shadowed him through the trees, silent and fast, but none attacked. They knew he was meant to come.
When he stepped through the barrier into pack lands, it shimmered gold around him—as though recognizing something sacred.
Johnny and Charlie met him first, flanking his sides in wolf form. Their eyes glowed, watching him with awe and a little caution. But when they led him toward the den, the land itself seemed to welcome him.
Anna stood waiting just beyond the circle of the sacred grove.
Her hair was loose, silver threads catching moonlight. In her arms, Elara stirred.
The baby was no ordinary child.
Her eyes—violet and silver like galaxies—locked onto Kael’s the moment he came into view. The rune at her collarbone pulsed with light. Her tiny hand stretched toward him, glowing gold.
Kael fell to his knees.
“I dreamed of her,” he said softly. “She’s older than this world.”
Anna smiled through sudden tears. “She knows who you are.”
Elara cooed, her voice melodic, the sound laced with something more—language beneath language. Her magic wrapped around Kael like a silken bond, not just greeting him, but claiming him.
“She spoke to me,” Kael whispered, wide-eyed.
Richard stepped beside Anna, watching the boy and the baby with the gravity of an Alpha. “Then it’s true. The prophecy said she’d gather the gifted. That her light would awaken theirs.”
Candace, Lacy, and the rest of the circle arrived one by one. As Elara reached for Kael again, Richard nodded.
“Let him hold her.”
Anna hesitated only a second before passing her daughter into Kael’s arms.
The moment their skin touched, the world seemed to inhale.
Leaves rustled. The wind sighed through the trees. Stars pulsed overhead.
Elara placed her palm on Kael’s heart and closed her eyes.
Visions exploded behind Kael’s eyelids—memories of a world before wolves, before kingdoms. He saw mountains rising from sea, light falling like water, great trees whispering names in ancient tongues. And in the center of it all, a child of starlight, born to restore the balance.
He opened his eyes, tears on his cheeks.
“She’s not just the future,” he said, voice raw. “She’s the memory of the beginning.”

Later That Night
In her crib woven with moonlight threads, Elara looked more like a priestess than a baby.
She didn’t cry.
She didn’t babble.
She watched.
When Anna leaned in to kiss her, Elara smiled and touched her cheek. “Mama.”
It was only her third word—but she had spoken it with full intention.
Candace gasped. “She’s barely weeks old!”
“She’s… more than she seems,” Anna whispered, awe in her voice.
“She’s aging differently,” Richard said. “But not just slowly—intelligently. Like she’s choosing what to develop, and when.”
Anna nodded. “She won’t grow like normal pups. Her body might age slowly… but her soul already holds lifetimes.”
Lacy stepped forward. “Then we have to protect her. Not just from the dark—but from those who’d use her.”
They all looked at Elara then, sleeping in moonlight, her rune glowing gently.
“She’s more than a Luna’s daughter,” Johnny murmured. “She’s the spark that could save us all.”
