Bloodline of Light

Chapter 25 Bloodline of Light The sunlight filtered through the training hall windows in golden beams, warming the wooden floors and casting long shadows where the gifted children moved in slow, focused patterns. Some practiced holding small stones aloft with just a thought. Others bent water from bowls into spirals, giggling when it splashed across the floor. One girl, silent and sharp-eyed, had already lit a candle without touching a match. It had only been two days, and already they were thriving. “They’re fast learners,” Johnny said, arms crossed, eyes scanning the room from beside me. “Terrifying, but fast.” “They’ve had to survive without guidance,” I replied softly. “But now they’re not alone.” Each child carried power thick as blood, and pain just as deep. I saw it in their eyes when they flinched from loud sounds, or jumped at sudden movements. But I also saw something else taking root. Trust. And belonging. Richard stood in the center of the group, showing one of the boys how to control his strength without fear. It was strange—watching the Alpha teach with so much patience—but he had taken to these children as if they were already his own. “They’ll protect this pack one day,” he said as he approached me again. “Just like we do.” I nodded, though a part of me was distracted. Not by fear—but by something… shifting. My senses were sharper than usual. I could hear heartbeats. Feel thoughts press at the edges of my mind. And my connection to the earth had only deepened. Every root. Every tree. Every gust of wind spoke to me now. And then there was the heartbeat. Not mine. Not Richard’s. The tiny one within me—strong, steady, golden. When I sat beside the oldest girl, Maren, during their water meditation, she looked at me sideways and said, “It’s not just a baby. It’s a key.” I stared at her. “What do you mean?” She shrugged, looking off toward the horizon. “The others feel it too. The child you carry… they’re one of us. But different. Bigger. Like… like they’ll unlock something.” Her words hit something deep inside me. Later that night, I stood alone on the balcony, wind brushing against my hair. The moon hung heavy above, full and glowing like an open eye. And she came again. The Moon Goddess. Her form shimmered, cloaked in white fire, eyes made of galaxies. “Anna,” she said, voice like thunder and lullabies. “You are the bridge. Your child will be the gate.” “The gate to what?” I asked, heart pounding. “To what’s been hidden. What the shadows feared. Your bloodline holds the final key to destroying them forever.” I reached for my stomach, trembling. “But how do I protect something so important?” “With love,” she whispered. “And truth. And strength drawn not from fear, but from unity.” She stepped forward, touching my forehead with her glowing hand. In a flash, I saw the past. Ancient warriors with eyes like mine. Flames that danced in moonlight. Sacred groves. Battles fought in silence and light. My ancestors, and the ones who came before them. And at the heart of it all—me. The end of a line. And the beginning of something new. When I opened my eyes, she was gone. But the mark she left burned golden on my skin. The child inside me stirred. And I knew: The real war hadn’t ended. It had only just begun.
