Chapter 13 Business Summit

Rachel P.O.V.

I am at my office looking over some paperwork and new information I received from my sources. Beatrice knocks on my door and pokes her head in.

“Mrs. Hamilton, You have your coffee break with Nathan in 15 minutes.”

“Thank you, Beatrice.” I put my files away and grab my purse and head over to Starbucks. I get in and see Nathan sitting at our usual spot with two coffees on the table. I walk over and he stands up to hug me. As we sit down, I grab my coffee and take a sip.

“So how are things?” I ask first.

“Not so bad, we are breaking ground on a few new resorts at the company, but my personal life is lacking.” He says with sadness in his eyes.

“Well I hope things change for you soon, don’t be so glum you still have your friends.” I said hoping that will cheer him up.

“Yea I know I got you. I just wished we hung out more.” His words just made me feel like I have been a horrible friend lately.

“Sorry Nate. What if we made our coffee breaks weekly? I’m sure that I have more time in my hands now that everything is running smoothly at my business.”

“I would like that Rach!” he said with a hopeful smile. “Hey, I been meaning to ask. Are you going to the business summit this Saturday?”

“Yes I will be there, I definitely got the invite along with Ian, Conner and Cat. Are you going?” He seemed to go tense at the mention on my best friends’ names.

“Yea I am planning on going. I was wondering if you could be my date for the evening as a friend. Or is Ian your date for that night?”

“No, I am not going to be Ian’s date. I am actually going to be Zander’s date.” I said. Nathan clenched his jaw and balled up his fists on the table. He clearly had a problem with what I just said. “Are you ok Nate?” I couldn’t help but ask.

“Yea just surprised… Are you too together or something?” Nate asked while gripping his coffee with both hands now.

“Yes actually. We are official now.” I couldn’t help but blush and grin, the feeling of saying it out in the open was very liberating. Nathan on the other had did not seem to share my enthusiasm.

“Wow… ok… are you sure your making the right decision? I mean you’ve only known the guy two weeks.” He said full of skepticism

“I am very sure. We just have this strange connection. We have been talking everyday since we meet, and our kids happen to know and love each other. Its just seems like it was meant to be.” I was back in cloud nine describing my relationship with Zander. I did not even pay attention to Nate’s reaction.

“Ok well I am sure I’ll get to see how Zander treats you firsthand at the Summit. I just want to warn you though… because you’re my friend I have to tell you that his past is not what it seems. He was out of hand in Seattle. But if you were able to change him from his old ways than I’m sure that you were meant to be.” I was taken back by his words. “And again save me a dance when we’re there?” he smirked at me. “I am sure Zander could let me dance with you for one song.”

“Yes ok, just one. Well I’ve got to go. Ill see you Saturday.” I give him a hug goodbye and head back to my office.

Nathan P.O.V

I finally get to see my princess for coffee. I am anxious to know if she is going to the Summit or not. I know she has been busy with her life, but I really wanted her to be my date. I cannot be patient anymore. I have planned everything for us since I reconnected with her. I want her to have my name and carry my children. I wanted us to be the ultimate power couple. She had all the connections and status I desired. And her beauty is beyond compare. I must make her mine.

I was at our usual spot and went ahead and bought our coffee. When I saw her walk in, I was filled with glee. Her presence just shines like the sun. I admire the way she gracefully walks over to the table. And when we hugged it was like touching silk. We sat and we began to talk about work and my personal life. Finally getting to the topic in my mind I was enraged to hear that she was already going with Zander and they were officially in a relationship. I tried to maintain my composure but hearing her happy and in the clouds about Zander. I just wanted to race to him and kill him with my bare hands. I was supposed to be the one that gives her happiness, she was supposed to be mine. She finally had to dash, and I gave her one last hug before she left. I stay there and go over all the options I could think of. I must win her back. I know I need to get ride of Zander, but now I want more. I am going to take everything from his life, his business, and his women. They will all be mine. I will not lose in this game.

Rachel P.O.V.

Saturday arrived and Cat, Conner, Zander, and I are at my house getting ready. We decided that the kids have a huge sleep over party at my house. Garrison’s nanny and my kid’s babysitter where there to keep an eye on all of them. We did not plan on coming back until morning because we booked suites for the night. I was so excited to be sharing a suite with Zander. I made sure that I wore some sexy lingerie under my dress. Cat and I got ready together as our stylists transformed us. Cat was wearing this baby pink chiffon off the shoulder long dress with a sweetheart neckline. She paired it with silver strapped heels, and long diamond earing. She had her hair in a mermaid braid that came over her shoulder. I wore my Strapless emerald green long dress paired with my black stilettos. My hair was softly curled and loose. I look at myself in the mirror and I looked so classy yet seductive. It may be my makeup as I opted for a red lip and a black winged eye linger, whereas Cat was more natural and softer with a nude lip and highlighter around the cheeks. When we were done, we snapped a few pictures and headed down stair. At the bottom of the stairs we saw our dates talking to one another. Conner was in a black tux with a white dress shirt and a black bowtie. Zander was also wearing a black tux but with a black dress shirt. I instantly remember the masquerade when he was wearing a similar tux. The only difference is that today he is wearing a black tie. He looked heavenly regardless. I was starting to feel wet just by looking at him. Cat and I approached to boys and they both turned gasped and marveled at our beauty.

“Your look gorgeous, darling.” Zander said while taking my hand to his. His eyes were full of admiration and lust as he pulled me closer to him. He placed his hands on my waist and breathed me in. I was getting hotter by the minute with every move he made. I was so overwhelmed with such a desire to just rip his cloth off. “You’re so tempting right now that I’d rather take you straight to our suite and ravish you all night.” Zander said with a dominate sexy voice.

I took a deep breath to calm my body. “Well you are just going to have to wait now. We have an important business summit to attend to. We can conduct our business after, and we can conduct it all night long.” I whisper. He garbs my hips hard and groans softly.

“How am I going to last the night, you’re such a tease.” Zander complained and let go of me to compose himself.

“Ok are we ready! The limo is already outside.” Conner said after having a moment with his wife. It seems like they are planning the same thing we are. All the kids rush over to say their goodbyes. Cat and I make one last lecture of the do’s and do nots to them and finally we head out. We pile into the limo and make our way to the resort for the Summit. We open a bottle of Champaign, drink, and have a few laughs before we make it to the venue. We all get out and make our way through the main lobby and in front of the main doors to the banquet hall. Zander held my hand in his arm as we reached the check in table. We got our room keeps and table number and proceeded inside the hall. I was so happy that we were all sitting together. First thing we see is the bar and immediately make our way towards it. Cat and I decided to drink only Champaign all night, While the boys ordered scotch. We hang around for a bit and Ian shows up. Ian told us he was seating at the same table as us and I was beyond thrilled. I knew that we were going to have the time of our lives even if this was business related. We all start walking away with our date and start to branch out and do some networking. I recognized many faces that I have come to know through my term as Major. I was introducing Zander around and he gained more connections for his business. Finally, it was announced that dinner would be served soon and we both made our way to our table. Zander pulled the chair out for me to sit. I look over the people at our table and beside the five of us, there was two other couples there from a communications company. With one chair left directly across from me I saw Nathan come and take it. I was surprised that he was at our table. Even though I should know that they assign seating based on which company you work for.

“I am so lucky to have you with me. I do not think that I would have made so many connections. You truly are a very influential woman in this town.” Zander whispered into my ear as he scoots his chair closer to mine. He slid his hand onto my thigh and began to cress it. I feel a shiver of desire run through my body. I try to maintain my composure and just look at him. He smirks and leans in to kiss me on the cheek. I grab my water and take a sip.

“You are asking for trouble Mister.” I smirk at him as I place my hand on his thigh and mimic his moves. I feel his body shiver and I know that I am affecting him like he is affecting me. We immediately stop what we are doing when the food arrives. We all engage in casual conversation while eating our food. Every now and then Zander and I steel glances at each other. I did not realize that I forgot to acknowledge Nate across from me. I look up at him and he is just staring daggers at Zander. I look over at Cat and I could see she notices too. She looks at me and excuses herself to the lady’s room. I also excuse myself to accompany her. Upon entering we make our way to the mirrors.

“So, what is up with Nathan? That man has had a sour face since he took his seat. And he is only staring at the two of you.” Cat said as she was taking out her lip stick from her clutch and applied it.

“I think its because he is not taking my new relationship with Zander very well. I had my usual coffee break with him on Wednesday and he seemed sad that I was not going to this Summit with him. He was acting strange when I told him about being official with Zander.” I sigh as I took take out my lip stick and reapply.

“Rach, I think he has deeper feelings for you. We all notice him trying to get closer to you this past year. The way he looks at you is as if he was looking at a trophy he needs to claim. He is jealous of Zander no doubt. Zander is perfect for you and he cannot compete with that. You will always be the one that got away. Just watch out for him. Conner and I have never really trusted him.” Cat said with concern.

“I will. Besides I have Zander now.” I said with pride.

“Yes you do! I could feel the s****l tension between you too. I am so glade you have a room tonight. I’m sure you two really need the release.” She said and burst out laughing. I couldn’t help but laugh myself. We finish up and head over to our table. I see Zander and he just smiles at me. Like the gentleman that he is he helps me take my seat before returning to his. I turn to smile at him. He leans closer, his head hovering over my shoulder.

“I missed you. Did you have a lovely chat with Cat?” He spoke softly.

“Yes” was all I said.

“Anything interesting I should know about?”

“take me to the dance floor to dance later and I will tell you. Just be patient ok” I give him a look of reassurance and happiness. Last thing I want to do is alarm him and get the wrong idea. The band on stage began to play and couple made their way to the dance floor. Conner took Cat by the hand and lovingly brought her to dance. Zander too got up stretch out his hand and asked me for a dance. I take a peek over at Nate and see him still starring at us downing his drink. Zander pulls me to him, his body flushed with mine. He snakes one arm around my waist resting his hand on my lower back, and the other hand grabs my hand. We sway to the music enjoying each other’s embrace for a moment.  

“So do you want to tell me what you and Cat were talking about in the lady’s room?” He asks as we continue to sway.

“Promise not to get mad, I sure its nothing serious but I just don’t want to upset you.” I hesitate for his response.

“Ok should I be worried?” He sounded concerned. O sigh and just decided to tell him.

“Have you noticed Nathans behavior tonight?” I ask

“Yes, is there something going on in his personal life?” Zander asks.

“Kind of, well I think he has feeling for me, which obviously I cannot reciprocate. I can only see him as a friend and nothing more. He asked me to be his date to this event which I declined and told him about us. I thought I might have been overthinking his reaction until Cat made me aware of his behavior towards me in the past and tonight just confirmed our suspicions. I really hope that this does not make you angry at me or him. We were good friends as children, and when he moved back, we just reconnected, but he isn’t that sweet boy I once knew.” I pause hoping Zander would not leave me angered by Nate’s jealousy.

“I understand Rach. I am not mad at all. I see the way he looks at you. I did see it at the Masquerade, and I see it even now. I will never blame you for attracting other guys. You are exquisite and irresistible. But I trust you and I love you. You are mine and I am yours. He can stare all he wants as long as he knows that he cannot have you. I know he is your friend and I will never forbid you from seeing your friends but if tries anything on you I will react. Last thing I want is to see the love of my life get hurt.” He spoke with so much sincerity that I could not help but lean in and kiss him.   

“I love you Zander; how did I get so lucky to have you?” I smile at him. We stare deep into each other’s eyes.

“I am the lucky one. You are caring, loyal, hardworking, and a great mom. You are a rare beauty. I am so blessed to call you mine.” He words were making my heart soar. Its like he knew how to make me fall deeper in love with him. We continue to dance song after song swaying and enjoying the closeness. It felt like we were the only two people in the entire room. Suddenly we were interrupted my a figure standing close to us. I look over to see Nate.

“I believe you owe me a dance.” Nate said starring deep into my eyes as if he was not going to take no for an answer. I look over at Zander and he smiles nods and kisses my hand.

“Don’t worry I will see you back at our table when you’re done.” He said reassuring me. “One dance Nathan and then I want her back.” He stated to Nate.

“Scouts honor chief.” Was all Nate said before he pulled me into his embrace a little too aggressive for my liking. We begin to sway and Zander walks back to our table.

“You look radiant tonight. I was sad that you didn’t greet me when I arrived.” Nate began to say

“I’m sorry I was so engaged in our conversations and you were at opposite side of the table looking upset. I didn’t want to bother you.” I tried to make him admit to his behavior. I want to make it clear that his feelings and reactions are unwarranted.

“You could never bother me princess. Seeing you always brightens my day.”

“So what was the matter Nate?” I asked concerned

“I just had one of my plans fall through and I am trying to figure out alternative to my problem.”

“Is there anything I can help you with? I am still your friend after all.”

“Not now, but I will let you know if I do. I wouldn’t want you to worry your pretty little face.” He said inching his head close to my neck. I could feel his breath close to my skin. I was not liking what he was doing. “What if I told you that I have regretted not asking you to be mine sooner?” I was shocked at his hypothetical. This confirmed the fact that Nathan will not stop until he has me.

“Nate don’t think like that. I do not want to ruin our friendship.”

“Answer me… would you have let me love you the way you deserved to be loved and not by him. I know that I am the better option for you. We have history and a real connection.” His words were beginning to frighten me.

“Nate, I can’t. Yes, we have history, but that is in the past. Yes, we are friends now but nothing more. You may have been my childhood crush but again that is in the past and we are adults now, we have changed. My feelings the are not the same now. I’m sorry but I can never love you the way that I love Zander.” I said as blunt as I can. Nate tightened his grip on me. He looked into my eyes and I could see rage flurrying behind them.

“Nate your hurting me, please let me go. You had your one dance. Now let me go.” I started to fidget and pull away to no avail. He held me still and did not stop staring at me. Finally, someone came and patted Nate on the shoulder temporarily loosening his grip. I manage to wiggle out and put some distance between us.  

“Hey Nate. Good to see you man… Rach may I have this dance? I already ran it by Zander.” Ian said while giving me a wink. I had never felt so relieved. I smile and immediately take his hand. Nate stands there for a moment and without saying a word walks away. Ian and I begin to dance.

“Are you ok?” He asks.

“Yes. Was it that obvious?” I asked him. I really hope Zander didn’t notice. I really did not want to cause a scene.

“I saw enough, Cat and Conner kept him preoccupied. I did ask if I could take the next dance so he would not punch the living daylight out of him. To be honest I wanted to punch that motherfucker.”

“I’m glade you didn’t… thank you for saving me.” I smiled at him and he just smiled back.

“What are best friends for.”

After Ian and I had our one dance we make our way back to our table. Zander helps me to my seat and immediately pulls me into his embrace. I felt safe and warm in his arms. I glance over to Nathans empty seat. I guess he could not stand seeing me with Zander. One thing is for sure, I do not think that we are ever going to go back to being just friends. I lost him, all because he didn’t play the game right and didn’t man up to claim me. I hope that one day he comes to his senses and find a girl and forgets me. Meantime, the five of us talk and laugh until the party started to die down. We say our goodbyes and make our way to our rooms. Zander and I finally make it into our room. Once we walk in, he slams the door and immediately engulfs me in a passionate kiss. He grazes his hand up and down my sides. His tongue with tasting every corner of my mouth. We finally break away to breath.

“I have been waiting all night to do that.” He states. I just smile and look deep into his eyes. We kiss each other again only this time its slow and gentle. I graze my hand up his torso and his chest slowly. I grab his tie and begin to loosen it. I next unbutton his shirt slowly reaching to his waist and unbuckle and zipping his pants down. I never broke our kiss as I slide my hands over his should helping him pull his arms from the shirt. His pants slide off and now he is only wearing his boxers. We break away and I slowly turn my back to him lifting my hair up hinting to him to unzip my dress. He takes his fingers and trails them along my shoulder down my back to the zipper. He gently pulled it down while placing small kisses down my neck and along my shoulders. My dress puddles on the floor and I set out of it. I turn around to face him again. He gazes up and down my body admiring the view. I gently grab his hand and make our way to the bed. He turns me around to face him again and he leans in and kisses me gain. His hands creasing my bare skin. He reaches to my bra and unclasp it and falls on the floor. His lips start to kiss me on my jaw, down my neck until it reaches my chest.
