“I…” Evelyn was completely lost for words. Her chest rose and fell quickly as she stared at Alexander, her nails digging into her palms. “Alexander, are you doing this on purpose? Why didn’t you think about me at all?” she snapped, her voice shaking with anger and disbelief.
Alexander stayed perfectly calm. “Don’t get upset, Evelyn,” he said in an even tone. “Even though you don’t have an official position in the Lancaster Group, you can be in charge of running the household. All the daily matters at home will be under your care. How does that sound?”
Evelyn blinked. For a short moment she had nothing to say. Then she lifted her chin proudly and gave a cold snort. “Hmph! That’s… acceptable!” she said, trying to sound pleased, though her voice still carried clear disappointment.
