4 The Persian Garden Room The rain beat down on the car’s roof as Yasmin’s words hung between them. Karim stared out the windscreen wondering what to do next. The last thing he wanted was for Yasmin to stay in his house. He had enough complications in his life without a former girlfriend showing up, and a married one at that. ‘Have you got a friend you can stay with in town?’ he asked hopefully. She pushed her hair back with both hands and combed her fingers through it. She turned and smiled at him. ‘Only wealthy people live in town,’ she said with her little hiccup laugh. ‘I have a friend who lives near the bus station, but we can’t go there.
