F**k f**k F**K Asher inwardly seethed, pacing the small space of his hotel room while his associate sat and watched with guarded eyes.
Finally, Asher slowed, and then came to a stop, sitting on the edge of his bed, his head in his hands. Whereas Asher’s eyes would only flash red with strong emotion, his associate, Lucas, always had red eyes. It was a sign of age and of control.
Finally feeling as though Asher was approachable, Lucas asked wryly, “Take it as you finally found your beloved?”
Nodding miserably, Asher looked at where Lucas reclined. “Then what’s the problem?”
“She’s human, Luke. Married. Kids. Does NOT want me around, ruining her happiness,” Asher whispered.
“Kill them, then she’s yours.”
Asher was quiet for a moment, contemplating his words. “I don’t think destroying everything she holds dear would help me win her over. The little bit I know of her from her husband, her children are her entire reason for being. Eliminating them would push her to reject me.”
“Fine, just f**k her then,” Lucas shrugged at the glare pointed at him before continuing, “Seriously, humans are doing this whole poly whatever bull s**t. Look into it, be with her and her family until they die, then turn her. The transformation heals aging.”
Asher pulled out his cell phone while Lucas went to the hotel room's fridge and pulled out a couple of bottles, handing one to Asher.
Taking a swig of the bottle while scanning the results of his “Poly” search, he found what he was looking for, but then made a grimace as he swallowed his drink. “Is this B negative?”
Lucas made a face, at the taste of the drink as well, “No, it’s the B-positive synthetic. Garbage, huh?”
Nodding in agreement, yet taking another sip, Asher read out loud, “Polyamory, where people believe they can love and commit to more than one partner, physically, sexually, and emotionally.”
“Yea, that’s it. All the rage for humans nowadays, I hear.” Lucas commented. “Where are you going, Asher?”
“To my beloved. I may not be with her yet, but I’ll be damned if I can’t at least see her. I won’t lose her.” Asher said, adding again in his mind. He ran his hands through his hair as he headed towards the door.
“Don’t forget we came to find the queen, we can’t lose sight of the mission,” Lucas warned as the door shut in his face.
Asher took a deep breath, calming himself before he displaced near the desk in Alashia’s room. With a slight wince, he cloaked himself just in case someone was awake, but fortunately, no one was. He looked at the bed closest to him and saw a toddler and child cuddled up together. His heart strings pulled as he saw the similarities the boys had to their mother and felt fury with those they had in common with their father. Moving towards the second bed where his beloved lay with her... husband, he saw her holding what must be her middle child in her sleep. The child had his father’s hair, but everything else was his beloved. He smiled, knowing he would do anything in his power to protect her, and now, her children.
His glance moving towards Chase, he frowned. Noticing something odd. Alashia and Chase’s auras actually merged into one another, meaning they were soul mates as well. It was unheard of for a human to have two soul bonds, and he wasn’t sure what this meant for her.
With a last glance at his beloved, he saw her hair fall into her face. Hesitating just long enough, he brushed the hair out of her face, and let his touch linger just long enough that she moved her face into his hand as she slept. Smiling slightly, he displaced again, disappearing from the room.
