FATED CIRCLE

Chapter 4 – Fated Circles Luna POV If you had told me a week ago that I'd be waking up in a mansion owned by a werewolf Alpha with cheekbones sharp enough to cut glass, magic seeping out of my fingertips, and a destiny larger than my overdue rent, I’d have slapped you with a pizza box. Yet here I was, brushing my tangled hair in front of a mirror so grand it looked like it belonged in a royal dressing room. The moment I stepped out of the room, I could feel the energy in the air shift. Whispers of movement. Like the house itself was watching, waiting. Also, I heard arguing. Loud. Annoyed. Possibly dangerous. I followed the noise into the massive living room where the twins—Kai and Lyra—were going head-to-head with… two new people. Kai was standing dangerously close to a girl with soft curls and the kind of energy that screamed sunshine wrapped in anxiety. She was trying to explain how healing salves weren’t supposed to be sticky, and Kai was trying to flirt like his life depended on it. “So, Mira,” he said, leaning on the back of the couch with that ridiculous grin, “does your magic always smell like strawberries, or is that just because you're sweet?” “Please stop talking,” she mumbled, face beet red. Across the room, Lyra was sparring—verbally, of course—with a tall, shadowy figure who could only be described as brooding lumberjack meets deadly assassin. “You’re late,” she said, arms crossed. Raven didn’t flinch. “I came the moment the moon told me to.” Lyra huffed. “The moon should learn punctuality.” I blinked. Twins. Mates. Oh boy. Just then, someone cleared their throat behind me. I turned—and nearly cried with relief. “Ivy!” My best friend stood there in ripped jeans, a pineapple crop top, and the same stubborn glare she wore when people shorted her tips at the diner. “I had to hitchhike with a talking raccoon shifter just to get here,” she muttered, brushing her curly hair back with a dramatic flourish. “What the actual hell is going on, Luna?” I rushed to hug her. “You came.” “Of course I came. You disappeared! And then I felt this... this pull in my blood and—I don't know, I followed it. I think I might be magic.” I stared. “Oh. Great. So now I’m not even the weirdest one in our friendship.” “Never were, sweetheart.” --- Zane POV Kane was already waiting in the training yard when I stepped out. He leaned against a post, arms crossed, gaze sharp. His blond hair was tied back, green eyes unreadable as always. “So,” he said slowly, “this is the mate?” “Yes.” “And she knows?” “She’s learning.” He raised an eyebrow. “She doesn’t look like much.” I growled. “Don’t start, Kane.” He held up his hands. “Just saying. She's cute. But she looks like she’d faint if someone waved a sword at her.” “She handled my family.” “Oh, scary breakfast table.” “I like her.” Kane stared at me for a long beat. Then nodded. “Then I’ll protect her. But if she burns down the house with her fox-vampire voodoo, it’s on you.” “She’s not dangerous.” Kane smirked. “That’s the thing. She looks soft, but she smells like prophecy.” He wasn’t wrong. --- Luna POV “Let me get this straight,” Ivy said as we walked through Zane’s rose garden, “you found out you’re a fox-vampire hybrid princess, you're mated to a growly werewolf Alpha, and now you live in a mansion with his royal family and two mated teenagers who act like enemies-to-lovers in a fantasy show?” “…That about sums it up.” “And you didn’t call me?” “I was kidnapped by fate! I didn’t have time to grab my phone!” She snorted. “Whatever. Just don’t die, okay?” I smiled, but the truth was heavier. Something in me was changing every day. My reflection flickered sometimes. My skin felt hotter near moonlight. And last night, when I touched a tree outside, its leaves glowed. Ivy didn’t need to know that yet. Suddenly, Zane appeared at the archway, walking like he was born to command attention. Kane followed behind him, giving me that weird unreadable look again. “Luna,” Zane said softly, “can I steal you for a moment?” Ivy elbowed me. “Go get your wolf, princess.” --- Zane POV I took her back to the library—the only place quiet enough to talk. She stood at the window, fingers brushing the sill. “You’re glowing again,” I said. She turned. “I can’t help it.” “I didn’t say stop.” She blushed. Gods help me, I was falling. “Ivy said she felt a pull,” she added after a beat. “She thinks she might be magical.” “Your bond may be waking people connected to you. It’s rare—but not impossible.” She swallowed. “Why me, Zane?” I stepped forward. “Because you’re the flame in a dark world. You were hidden for a reason. The blood in your veins—fox and vampire—it’s the key to something ancient. I don’t know what yet, but I’ll protect you until we find out.” She looked up at me. “You sound so sure.” “I am sure.” “Even if I’m dangerous?” I cupped her cheek. “Especially then.” --- Luna POV I was going to kiss him. There. I said it. Zane’s presence was like gravity, like a full moon I couldn’t look away from. I leaned forward, heart hammering— “Hey, lovebirds!” Kai shouted from the hall. “Training session! Mira and Raven are dragging us all outside.” Zane sighed. “Perfect timing.” I groaned. “I’m going to kill him.” “You’ll have to get in line.” --- Later – Training Yard Watching a werewolf training session was like watching a supernatural WWE match—if everyone had magic and unresolved emotional trauma. Lyra and Raven were doing hand-to-hand, all sharp movements and occasional snarls. Mira was running drills with Kai, healing him after he let himself get bruised just to keep her close. Zane was sparring with Kane—both fast, brutal, and balanced like a storm in motion. Then Ivy poked my arm. “Are you just going to stand here, or are we going to find out if you can summon fireballs or fly?” “I don’t think I can do either—” “Only one way to find out.” She tossed a pebble at me. It hit my arm. A flash of heat raced through my skin. The next thing I knew, a small swirl of blue fire flickered in my palm. Everyone stopped. Even Kane looked impressed. Zane stepped toward me, slowly, eyes full of wonder. “You’re awakening,” he whispered. I stared at the flame in my hand. “…I think I just lit myself on fire.”
