Chapter 6
King of Alphas/Max
I stand on the balcony overlooking the training grounds from my office, watching the new batch of recruits. I hear the beep on my phone and see the new e-mail notification. “Oh, look little Miss Perfect finally decided to e-mail me back!” The e-mail from Laura Grace Richards of the Lost Souls Pack, the all she-wolf pack and my father’s charity case. He never expected them to actually work-out. He figured it was just to rejects that were out for revenge as women scorned to prove something. Well little Miss Perfect and her Alpha delivered. They have the largest she-wolf pack that every Alpha sends their rejects to or goes to if they want to find their Second Chance Mate.
My father loves Miss Laura Grace Richards, from the time she arrived, to the time she went screaming from the castle he praised her. He came to me yesterday and told me I must go to their pack and meet with them. They had more money than the Goddess and he needed to know how and why. I wanted to tell him I was sure it was little miss perfect charging for time with the she-wolves. Yeah, I thought it was a modern-day brothel, how in the world would that many women have that much money and NO MEN?
Looking down at my phone I remembered I needed to tell Kyle about the trip to his old area. He told me he was apart of the Golden Moon Pack that is right next to the Lost Souls Pack. I figured he would want to go see his old family and friends. I linked him to come to my office and like the best friend he has quickly become he strides in as I am replying to Little Miss Perfect(LMP)! I tell her I have 5 guards, 2 Betas and the King in the party. I started to type out our preferences as far as hair color and body size, but figured she is probably smart enough to research us. I am smirking as Kyle sits on the couch and puts his feet on the coffee table. “What-up?” He says leaning back.
“We are going on a trip, leaving Thursday, we will be back on Sunday.” I tell him sending the e-mail off to LMP with a smirk.
“Okay, gonna give me an idea of where we are going? What wild hair you have up your Ass now? We just got back from Vegas.” Kyle says with his arms now folded.
“You will be happy. My father insists I visit his pet project, the Lost Souls Pack. If figured since it is next door to your old pack you would be happy to go!” I look up from my phone to see my friend white as snow and arms hanging. He sits up and puts his head between his legs breathing deep. I walk over and sit next to him rubbing his back. I mean the guy is like 6’6 with muscles bigger than mine. He is built like a tank with a short military hair cut we require all guards to have, he kept it to show some type of solidarity. “What the hell is wrong Kyle?” Now I am concerned, I have never seen him this way, even before the fiercest fight with rogues.
Kyle finally lifts his head and says, “NO! I can’t do it. Take Travis, Tanner or Brett!” He sounds like someone sucked the life out of him.
“Kyle, I get it, you said you didn’t leave your Pack on a good note, but its been almost a year. You have flown thru the ranks; I am sure they are proud. You’re my Best Friend. I have to have you with me at the Brothel.” I say laughing. He just glares at me.
“Is that what you think it is?” He growls as his eyes go black.
“Dude, calm down! It’s just a bunch of She-wolves, I mean how else are they getting money?” I tell him laughing.
“Don’t say that, NEVER say that again!” He shouts at me.
“Are you seriously yelling at your Alpha?” I stand up crossing my arms. Now my eyes are going black.
“Sorry, Bro. I just… I fu@ked up!” He says bowing his head.
“No, Bro we are good, but what the hell?” I tell him patting his shoulder.
“The day I left to come here, it was the Alpha’s daughters 18th Birthday. I thought I would be gone by the time she woke up and got out to the training grounds.” Kyle tells me with pain in his eyes. “She was, well she still is my Mate.”
“You left without telling her?” I look at him with astonishment.
“Not quite.” He looks at me with tears almost falling.
“What the hell did you do?” Kyle knows how I feel about Mates. I lost both of mine. I would give anything to have just one back.
Kyle puts his head down and says softly, “I rejected her.”
“YOU WHAT!” I stand up and walk away before I did something stupid. “Why didn’t you ever tell me?” I say slowly and softly.
“Because I saw you that day I got here. You were a disaster. They said you had so much pain the only thing they could figure is you lost your Second Chance Mate too.” Kyle says with his head in his hands.
There was a moment of silence before I asked, “Wait how do you still have a Mate if you rejected her? And what does this have to do with the Lost Souls Pack?” I ask him furrowing my brows.
Kyle wipes his face, puts his elbows on his knees and steeples his hands in front of his lips. “She never accepted my rejection.” He says as he rubs his head again.
I look at him wide-eyed, “You have a Mate! But what about the Lost Souls Pack?”
He looks me straight in the face, “She is their Alpha.”
“How do you know?” I say still shocked.
“My mother, she keeps me up to date. Her hope is I come to my senses.” He says as a tear falls from his eye. “I broke her. So much so, she and her best friend, LG, who is a genius by the way, started a pack for all rejected, matless or Lone-wolves.” He says as he finally leans back looking at me.
“So, no Brothel?” I ask with my eyebrows raised. He looks at me with a look of death. “Too soon?” I joke.
Kyle looks at me, “yeah, way too damn soon.”
“Look I already said 2 Beta’s are coming. They know you are my Beta. Maybe it’s a good thing, you can go and see your family at Golden Moon since she won’t be there.” I say hopeful.
“I will go because you command and will act according to Guard Code.” Kyle says deadpan. He is reverting to his old training.
“Kyle, I am sorry my friend. I really didn’t know.” I say looking at him in the eyes. I uncross my arms and go to sit next to him again. “They know you’re coming, you know, that right?”
“Yep” he says looking at the ceiling.
“You can stay at your old Pack.” I tell him with a pat on the shoulder.
“Nope.” He says flat.
“What do you mean, nope?” I say questioning.
“Well her brother is now the Alpha of my old Pack, and I don’t think he wants me there.” Kyle says looking at me with a half smile.
“Well sh!t, man. I am sorry. Maybe she has a dungeon she can put you in?” I say to him with a small laugh.
“I think it would be better than in the same house smelling her all fu@king night long!” Kyle looks at me with pain in his eyes.
“Man, why did we never talk about this? You never told me.” I ask him straight up.
“Oh, yeah I am going to go to my best friend, who has lost both chances at happily ever after and tell him, Hey bro, I know you’re in pain and all, but yeah I have a Mate and tossed her aside because I didn’t feel worthy and was to selfish to see what the Goddess gave me! Yeah that’s a manly conversation.” Kyle says to me as he stands and goes to my stash of whiskey. “Don’t you have any Everclear?”
“Bottom right drawer.” I say feeling the need as well. I watch him take a long swig and hold my hand out. “So, this Laura Grace, my father thinks she’s walked on water.” I say to him handing back the bottle.
“Oh, he’s not the only one. Woman sh!ts gold!” He says as he takes another long drink.
“What do you mean?” I ask him as he walks to my computer to google the woman.
He puts the bottle down, smacks me on the shoulder, “You mean to tell me you haven’t heard of Wolf&Bark Beauty?”
“I have their shampoo. I was told it’s made by werewolves. So, I figured I would keep it in the family.” I say to him as a matter of fact.
“Yeah, well Lost Souls makes it. She runs the business. It’s not just for wolves, she also markets it to humans.” Kyle says to me like I must have been under a rock.
As google brings her up, it lists her as one of the most successful women venture capitalist in America. She owns several brands under the Wolf&Bark Beauty name. There is one picture of her, her dark red hair flowing down past her shoulders, she has large sunglasses on with creamy white skin and the most perfect red lips. I suddenly remember her. “She was in the meeting room that day my wolf led me into the house acting crazy in my head. She ran out right when I walked in. She said she had an emergency.” I say staring at the picture, lost in her.
“You ok Bro? You look like you just saw your whole world in front of you open up.” Kyle says smacking my back.
“Uh yeah, never better.” I say still looking at the screen as Kyle walks to the door. It’s late I am sure he is ready to go to bed. “Hey Kyle, what happened to her Mate?”
“Well apparently the day I rejected Elizabeth, another Alpha rejected LG.” Kyle says with his head down. “I m tired, if you don’t need anything else, I am going to bed.” I nod as Kyle walks out of my office.
I grab the bottle of Everclear and take a long pull. “Who the fu@k would ever reject her?” I say softly, as my heart does a flip and I wonder what the hell is wrong with me and take another drink.
