Anna. As I walk into my house, the silence engulfs me. I place my bag down next to the stairs and take off my heels, letting out a tired sigh before heading into the living room. But I don’t sit. Instead, I go straight to the kitchen, heading for the fridge to grab a bottle of wine. I take a glass from the top cupboard, and the two clink together, the sound echoing loudly in the kitchen as I place one on the counter and pop the cork. As I fill the glass, Polly’s sweet, calming tone comes from behind me. Usually, I’d jump, but not this time. “Hi, honey.” With the white liquid in my glass, I turn and take a sip. “Hi, Pol.” Her brown hair shows a few grey strands, and her eyes wrinkle at the corners as she smiles at me. “Had a long day?” I lean against the counter. “Is it that obvious?
