Sophia stared in awe at the decorations that adorned the school hall. A series of pine trunks complete with leaves soaring high around the room. Several colorful ribbons have also decorated all corners of the room to make it look beautiful and festive. That place will witness its inauguration as part of the werewolf academy. She couldn't wait for the event to start.
Various dishes are also available on the large dining table. The werewolves really like to eat in large quantities, especially meat. They will not feel full even though they have finished dozens of plates. This is indeed in accordance withthe body mechanism of a werewolf which is designed to have great strength and unlimited combat power. No wonder the werewolves can fight for days.
Bianca invited Sophia to join a group of girls who seemed to be staring in awe at the decoration of the room. From their expressions, they were new students just like Bianca and Sophia.
A young man caught Bianca's attention. The girl cheered when she saw him.
"Look, it's Andrew Davidson. He's a young man famous in the southern tribes for his bravery and strength," squealed Bianca with beaming eyes. The curious Sophia immediately turned her gaze towards the youth mentionedby her friend next to her. Apparently a handsome young man was spreading a smile because many were greeting him. The young man was tall, brown skinned, long haired, and aquiline nose. Really handsome compared to other young men Sophia had met.
He is famous in the south?" repeated Sophia without turning away from Andrew's dazzling figure.
Bianca nodded in agreement and looked at Sophia.
"My father often told me about himself and the greatness of the tribes in the south in driving away enemies," said Bianca.
Sophia felt strange with Bianca's explanation. Enemies, since when werewolves had enemies. As far as she knew, life was running smoothly and peacefully.
"Life in the south is different from the atmosphere in London. There werewolves must fight to defend their territory from our eternal enemies, the vampires. They become werewolves' rivals in finding prey when the full moon arrives," continued Bianca.
Werewolves and vampires are blood-sucking fellows. The difference is, vampires can take blood at any time while werewolves only during the full moon. Sometimes they are forced to meet and there is an unavoidable dispute. Werewolves abstain from sucking human blood and prefer animal blood. Meanwhile, vampires prefer human blood, although now they are starting to switch to drinking animal blood.
Vampires, werewolves and humans live side by side without disturbing each other. Werewolves and vampires still have to hide their identities as immortals or bloodsucking creatures. One of the strengths of the two peoples is immortality or longevity.
"I can't imagine having to meet a vampire there" Sophia responded, shuddering. She often read stories about immortals who were known as gods of beauty because their bodies were so perfect. Vampires always live eternally even up to hundreds of years. They are white and flawless in the least.
Bianca laughed at Sophia's reaction.
"Why be afraid? They were our mortal enemies many years ago. The purpose of our study is to train ourselves so we can fight them in the future. We will not let the future of the werewolves be destroyed because of the vampires," said Bianca passionately. That girl deserved the title of being the daughter of an elder.
As Sophia suspected, she would always be the talk of the town. Her white skin is again an easy target for discussion there. I don't know where it's coming from but Sophia can hear what other people are talking about her. A werewolf has very strong hearing and smell because it is a mix between a wolf and a human.
"What's wrong with you?" asked Bianca who was curious about Sophia's face which suddenly turned somber. Sophia just shook her head but Bianca understood that something must have happened to make her friend react. Did something happen?" Bianca demanded.
"They always talk about my skin differences," said Sophia. Her face was somber and her forehead furrowed with annoyance.
"Who? I didn't hear anyone talking about you?" asked Bianca while looking around to find the figure Sophia was referring to.
"Can't you hear their loud voices?" she replied. Little did she know that the rest of her friends did not have the ability to hear as clearly as she did.
"Nobody's talking about you, I just heard them complaining about the decorations and the bountiful dishes," said Bianca. Sophia wondered why her friend couldn't hear what she was hearing. Suddenly she had an idea.
"Let's hear carefully, what are the two girls sitting over there talking about?" Sophia pointed at some students who were not far from her. Bianca watched the two girls while shaking her head because she really didn't hear anything.
"You can't hear it? They are discussing the enchanting figure of Andrew Davidson," said Sophia. Bianca starred in surprise at her new friend. She did not know that a werewolf in human form could hear other people's conversations.
"Can you hear it?" inquired Bianca.
Sophia nodded firmly because she could hear all the talk in the hall. Since childhood she has been able to do it.
"This is strange. Werewolves who are in human form cannot hear other people's conversations. They can only have sensitive hearing after being able to change form." explained Bianca, which made Sophia widen her eyes. She didn't think that she was actually the strange one now. Something that her people don't have, she has had since childhood. Now Sophia finds another oddity in herself besides skin color.
"I don't know, all this has been in me for a long time," Sophia said casually. She didn't want his friends to think about him. She is also afraid that this ability is due to a genetic mutation in her body.
Bianca stared fixedly at Sophia. She felt strange in the figure of her new best friend. The strangeness that starts from the color of his skin, the different smell of blood and now the ability to hear voices that most people don't have. She began to wonder about the origins of Sophia, who was a mixed child between a werewolf and a human.
"Okay, I understand. You are indeed special, Sophia. How about we listen to the principal's speech now. Looks like this semester will be a memorable experience for all of us" Bianca said as she turned her gaze towards the stage.
In front, several tall men and women were lined up looking at them all. It seems they are the teachers in this Werewolf Academy. Sophia watched the people lined up in front one by one, and her gaze shifted to the figure of a middle-aged man who was smiling at her. The man smiled with a meaning that was difficult for Sophia to decipher.
"Why is that guy as pale as me? Is he also of mixed race?" muttered Sophia.
Bianca turned to Sophia. Apparently She heard what Sophia said.
"He is a history teacher. Reportedly a vampire that's why he knows the history of our tribe and the vampire tribe for hundreds of years" explained Bianca.
Sophia glanced at Bianca and the pale-skinned teacher they were talking about. The teacher seemed to know what they were talking about because the boy smiled at Sophia.
"Jeez, I forgot that vampires can hear what other people are talking about," Sophia muttered to herself. She immediately returned the teacher's smile.
"Why are they teaming up with the werewolves, when we've been enemies of the vampires for a long time?" she asked.
Bianca shook her head. It seems She also does not understand what is the background of peace between the two peoples.
Sophia and Bianca looked back at the lined up teachers. They are ready to listen to directions from the principal of the school.
