“That’s not important,” said Wes quickly. “Look, I know it’s not any of my business, but are you actually planning to stay friends with her? Because if you’re not, you should probably just be up front about it. Save her the trouble, you know?” Beth screwed up her face, much akin to the way someone might smell a lingering fart. “The trouble of what? It’s not my fault she’s, like, obsessed or whatever.” Her girlfriends giggled, and Beth tossed her hair over her shoulder. “But she’s always been like that. Super clingy, ever since we met in summer camp.” “Uh-huh.” Wes put his hands on his hips. “So why not just tell her you don’t want to be friends then?” “I dunno,” said Beth simply. “It’s fun to have her follow me around sometimes, I guess. She’s like a lost dog.” Again, the girls giggled.
