Chapter 40: The Aftermath

1137 Words
Far away from all the chaos and destruction that was happening throughout the empire, in the Central Continent, one man had just received a report that required attention and immediate response. The message had been confirmed to have come from the Western Continent. Upon laying his eyes on what was written may have increased his blood pressure but not so much that he would have fainted. He quickly regained his composure however as he immediately sent men to confirm the details regarding the report. He also sent a messenger to notify the emperor of the grave threat that the Western Continent is facing. "This is terrible! This.... just how could this be...." He whispered under his breath as he continued to read the report. His hands visibly trembling yet was still firmly holding the terminal upon which he was reading from. In a large room that was filled with bright lights, a man was seated on a chair that looked as if it was a throne. In front of him was a luxurious long table filled with an abundant amount of food with a large variety to choose from. Just as he was about to take a bite with his spoon, a messenger had come for him unexpectedly. "How rude! The emperor is having his meal! Scram an-" Before the guard had finished what he was saying, the emperor had raised his hand and stopped him. "Let him come, I'm sure it must be of great importance, am I right?" The messenger that was sent to the emperor had begun to iterate the sudden outbreak of the monsters from the Western Continent. The emperor who heard this was disgruntled. His brows were furrowed when he let go of his utensils. "This is troublesome...." He then resolutely cut off his meal and stood up from the luxurious table. His eyes were sharp as he looked at the messenger. "Good work. Immediately call out Brian for me." He commanded as he began to head towards his royal chambers. His half-eaten meal no longer seemed as appetizing as it once was. Back on the Western Continent. A man who had been furiously defending the current defensive lines by fighting against a Lord Class monster had just breathed out a sigh of relief. He had finally managed to kill the Lion. This man was Robert. He just had one of the most thrilling fights that he could ever have in his whole life. The Lord Class monster that he had defeated was not just an ordinary one. It was much more powerful than what he knew and had deduced that it was probably about to break out of Lord Rank and enter a whole new realm of fighting prowess. This victory, however, came alongside consequences. Since he was fighting on a chaotic battlefield, one where ally and foe cannot be properly discerned, their side had undoubtedly suffered a huge amount of casualties.  As he felt relieved, he began to feel the pain in his body that he couldn't feel before because he was filled to the brim with adrenaline. However, not that the fighting has ended his body no longer needed the large amounts of adrenaline which now greatly weakened him. When he tried to take a step forward, instead of continuing to stand straight, his left foot had lost balance causing him to kneel. He then pierced the ground with his sword to continue to hold him up at the least. "I think it's broken." He then took a look and was surprised to see that his leg was bent weirdly. "This..... this is broken." He frowned as he could no longer move his body. A soldier that saw him kneeling on to the ground came running. "Captain!" Fortunately, this soldier had seen him earlier just when Robert had jumped off from the giant Lion's head after hitting it with his killing blow. The Lion's might was etched on every one of the soldiers serving Robert, but for their captain to be capable of beating it. Their reverence towards their captain had reached a whole new level. On a hill not so far away. Alect's silhouette could vaguely be seen. Her mouth was agape upon seeing the last scene just before the Lion had been killed. The lion was a cut above other Lord Ranks. Based on her experience, she knew that this was a monster that was on the verge of reaching King Class. She came here after slaying two Lord Rank monsters who had presumably just reached this stage thus making her capable of killing them in a short amount of time. And just as she was about to return to HQ she heard a report saying that one of the people who had been sent out to subjugate the Lord Class monsters had lost unconscious after killing the first Lord Class monster causing him to be incapable of fighting the second Lord Class monster. Considering that all the Lord Ranks that she had met so far were weak, she decided to head towards the Lion only to see this amazing sight before her. She was impressed as she saw how the monster had been slain by a youth who looked like he was just at a similar age as her. This was simply preposterous! She knew that if she were the one to attempt to kill that, she would not just break a leg. She might even completely lose them, but that was just optimistically thinking as a situation might even arise wherein she might even lose all of her limbs and possibly her life if she were unlucky. This spectacle not only filled her with an admiring feeling, but it also filled her with fear. This was simply a genius! One that has tremendous potential considering his age. She was simply no match with that kind of monstrous talent. She was immediately awoken by a beeping sound from her wrist causing her to be flustered. She received a call from HQ asking her to report about the current situation. "It's dead..." Without being able to completely think about exactly what she meant by that answer she replied. On the Eastern Continent, Cray who had heard all this sudden dump of information had a very hard time taking it in. He had a lot of things in mind. Seeing this, Ye Chen who was previously seated, stood up and walked towards a certain drawer. From there he took out a small box and placed it in front of Cray. "This is something that was left behind by the great Einder to my Chen clan for safekeeping. I believe I should bring this back now that its rightful owner has appeared." He then backed off very slowly. He was keeping track of Anastasia and her little sister that came along with her. He was very wary of his surroundings despite his calm look. This raised suspicion on Anastasia as she looked at how weird Ye Chen was moving.
