Chapter 6: Enemy

1617 Words
Hannah, who was panic-stricken, calmed herself down as she started to inspect Cray’s body thoroughly to search for any injuries that caused all the blood, she did not dare to carelessly move Cray’s body as he might have internal injuries and she was also not medical personnel for her to do so. Fortunately, there didn’t seem to be any harm as she could not find any open wounds that could’ve caused all the blood. That is why she decided to turn on the faucet and splashed some water to clean up Cray. This was also done in order to double-check as she might have missed some injuries that were covered by all the blood and dirt. ‘Today was supposedly the day that Cray was supposed to have his parting feast with us. But I didn't expect anything like this happening. Weird things started happening and I don't even know where all this blood came from and how Cray ended up like this, but it seems like he is just unconscious.’ Then after a couple of seconds, the pillar of light had long disappeared only to leave Cray naked. But as he slowly opened his eyes, in place of his normal black colored pupils was a tinge of blood-red color that seemed to match his pale skin. The way that he silently stared gave one an eerie feeling. He looked at Hannah as if he was some wild beast who craves the taste of his prey. This caused Hannah great fear. The fear was so great that she wanted to run away out of pure instinct, but at the same time, the fear had also caused her to become frozen in place. While she was still stupefied about Cray suddenly having those scary-looking red pupils, he without any warning immediately passed out once again after uttering her name. Snapping out of it, Hannah’s fear was soon replaced with anxiety. "What was that? Cray?! Are you still there? Stay with me, Cray!" She tried tapping his cheeks to awaken him once again but to no avail, he stayed still like a log. At this point in time, after experiencing a wide array of emotions, she felt that this must all be an elaborate trap to prank her. Just then, she started to become more aware of what the situation is. Rather, she began to recognize Cray not just as a childhood friend but also as a man of her age and this was too much stimulation for people within her age group. A man wearing nothing together alone with a woman inside an enclosed space. "NO! NO! NO! NO! WHAT AM I THINKING! Ah! That's right CLOTHES! Yes! I need to cover him up first! He might Catch a cold after all! It's definitely not because I wanna cop a feel on his body! No! I mean who would want that?!" Hannah then started to wrap around and tie a towel on Cray's body. After doing so she somehow managed to drag him all the way to the near sofa and lay him on it. "Sheesh making me do this much to you! You're really making me worried you know! If you don't wake up soon I'm really gonna...I'm... I'm gonna get mad you know." Hannah almost couldn't finish her sentence midway as she suddenly started sobbing and it doesn't seem like it will stop anytime soon. Meanwhile, Cray is currently stuck in an awkward position. About a minute ago he had been awakened by this seemingly sobbing voice. The very girl who was crying next to him right now had already woken him up the first time. But the first thing that he saw was something that he carved on the back of his mind. Back then when he opened his eyes Hannah was holding his head close to her heart in the literal sense, and that made him see things that he didn't see before. So shortly after he opened his eyes, he shut them tight to avert himself from the possible dangers that might happen naturally as it is a male’s inborn nature to rise at times like these. Especially at the time when he was naked. And that led him to this current gloomy atmosphere. During the ancient times, a certain philosopher named Socrates had developed a way to become more adept at solving problems that one may encounter and that is by giving an initial premise a question regarding its definition and answering it with a better definition or opinion. As such, it was dubbed the Socratic Method. In this instance, Cray could be seen unwittingly exploring this concept as he tries to find a way to solve his current crisis. ‘What should I do!? I'm definitely okay right now, I also feel bad for making her cry this much. But if she finds out that I was awake this whole time then that would also be bad. After all, she did say that she would get mad at me if I wouldn't wake up! Arghhh. Why does it have to be this way?’ His inner dilemma was causing him to sweat buckets. ‘Should I just wake up and act as if I don’t know anything? Or should I just be honest and apologize to her?’ Cray was at his wit's end, but before he arrived at his decision, he suddenly felt danger. As soon as he felt that, he heard three knocks that were made at his front door. "Excuse me. Is there anyone there?" A lady's voice could be heard just at the opposite side of the door. And Hannah was about to answer when a hand suddenly reached and covered her mouth. "Shhhhh" Cray hushed Hannah. Flustered Hannah could only nod silently as he followed Cray when he suddenly pulled her away from the door. Just after they have reached the backdoor the front door was suddenly smashed open with brute strength and in came a frail-looking lady. "Sigh, I can't believe I would be tasked to go in this stinking place. If not for the rewards, then I wouldn't even think twice about going here." She then started to search the house starting from the second floor as she thought that the owner of the house would probably be asleep at this time. "Hannah, we're gonna run right now okay? I want you to head towards your house right away. That person isn't good, she's probably looking for me." Cray suddenly remembered what Note had told him about enemies trying to find him. Right now, he was so sure that she is an enemy he couldn't explain how or why, but he can just instinctively feel it. "Cray what about you? Why are you talking as if you aren't coming with me?" Hannah whispered to avoid raising her voice as she was quite worried. Things suddenly started going weird just right after that light shone on top of his house. She didn't want to leave without him. She felt that if she did it right now then she would lose him forever. Especially with the kind of smile that he was putting on right now. It was very familiar as every time he smiles, just moving his left lip means that he is lying. "Hannah, don't worry I have a plan! I'll immediately come to your house as soon as I finish what I'm going to do. I promise Okay?" Cray didn't stay still as he opened the door silently and pushed Hannah off. Reluctantly Hannah made her way home without looking back. She bit her lips in mockery as she blamed her weak powerless self that could only be dead weight to Cray in his moment of need. All she needed to do was run, so she ran faster. But as she was running the lady who broke the front door spotted her from the window upstairs. She wanted to ask the little girl if she saw anything that might lead her to a clue or the reason why a sudden pillar of light appeared in this location. Or if she even caused it, which would mean that she was her target. Knowing this, she opened the window and started to jump all the way down from the second floor. A stunt that no sane ordinary man would pull off. But she did it so simply, so elegantly and so easily that it looked breathtaking. The moment Cray saw this from the slit of space made through the backdoor, he was stunned as he thought that she would normally head down using the stairs where he planned to confront her, instead, she jumped through the window. Now all of his plans to trap her were made in vain so he then chased after her. But just as he was about to leave his house he had an idea. So he took out a nearby glass bottle and broke it just before he went out. The noise that he made attracted the attention of the lady, so she looked back only to see a young boy running in the opposite direction. Her eyes widened in surprise. "Oh, what a clumsy little boy, you thought that you could escape me now did you?" Remembering the briefing about her target a couple of minutes ago, she realized that this young man must be the person that she was looking for, after all, which sane man would run outside nearly buck naked at this time of the day? Obviously he had little time to prepare himself, now that could only mean that he had determined her as an enemy and was running away from her. “Now that I found what I am looking for, I can finally do what I came here for.” The lady licked her red lips and she started dashing towards Cray.
