{ Lunanci }
It's been two weeks since I watched a wolf shift and become what I thought was an evil demon but ended up being a spoiled brat who took over my life and has me as his live-in hostage while he decides to kill me. It's been two weeks since I learned new things about the universe I live in and since then, my life is a little more exciting.
We haven't found Rio's brother, even though we've spent all this time going all over town looking for him, on foot and in Rio's car, but that guy is nowhere to be found. To be honest, that's better for me because Alex is unknowingly extending my life.
But living with a werewolf is not as easy as anyone would think, it's quite annoying, in fact. Rio demands food five times a day and that's only if he doesn't want to eat something sweet in between meals. He complains if I haven't washed the sheets, he steals most of the hot water and has a mess of clothes everywhere since he went to buy a new wardrobe. He's spoiled, annoying and has to remind me every five minutes that he's going to kill me soon so I don't forget. Still... strangely, I like him.
We talk all day, we watch dumb tv shows together, he makes me cookies and cupcakes, he tells me absolutely everything that has ever happened in his life in detail and he helps me out with money. He paid for my rent and always pays for food, he even bought me a few things that day he dragged me to the mall. He even stopped making fun of me for being poor.
"We have to go grocery shopping again," I mutter, closing the fridge when I see it's almost completely empty. Rio is lying on my bed with his tablet and when he hears me, he looks at me like I'm a complete inconvenience in his life.
"Go by yourself. I'm tired."
"From what?"
"From being in your shop all day, I'm still dizzy," he complains, "Go by yourself, I'll give you my card and you can take my car."
"No, I need your help carrying stuff," I insist. Rio is still fighting to stay here, but I convince him to get off his äss anyway and we go to the supermarket together like a couple of completely normal roommates, not like an evil werewolf and his hostage. Although at this point we both know I'm not completely a hostage because I absolutely want to go to Tallahide and I'll do it even if I have to give my life for it.
Rio pushes the cart through the supermarket completely ignoring all the stares people give him.
"You know, Lunanci... I've been thinking... I think I might be able to get somewhere if my wolf is the one looking for Alex," he says suddenly, not even bothering to lower his voice. It's not like it matters much, but it still makes me a little nervous. Especially because of the nonsense he's proposing.
"No, that's a really bad idea."
"Just hear me out before you dismiss my idea," he grumbles and starts filling the cart with a bunch of meat I'll have to cook for him, "How normal would it be for a human like you to have a wolf, as like, a pet?"
"What?" I laugh, "That wouldn't be normal at all, that would be totally crazy."
"How about you say I'm fully domesticated, vaccinated and all that?"
"Rio," I groan, closing my eyes in stress for a moment. All his ideas suck so bad, "What are you even planning?"
"Just going out in my wolf form, walking beside you being a good pet while I look for my brother. My senses are much better in wolf form, I could find him much faster."
"You're crazy, I'd have PETA on my äss immediately. Wolves are a protected species, you know? And that's nice, don't you think? Your brothers are cared for by humans."
"Ugh, I'm completely losing my patience," he complains, crossing his arms across his chest and giving me a prayerful look, "We gotta try it at least once. We can do it at night while no one's around."
"Your wolf is super big, almost taller than me," I tell him, Rio looks at me like that's not a problem, "Normal wolves aren't that big, we'd draw too much attention."
"Remember that video you showed me? The girl was training a super big dog, almost as big as me."
"Hardly. And that dog was some kind of Great Dane, those are normal."
"Well, let's just say I'm a hairy Great Dane," he insists, sounding like a kid who isn't getting what he wants, as usual. Seriously, this guy always tests my patience.
"You're definitely..."
"Hey, Luna," someone says suddenly, catching my attention from behind me. I know who it is immediately, I still recognize his voice, "I haven't seen you in such a long time."
"Hey, Nico… how are you?" I force myself to say, turning to him and giving him a tight smile.
"Great. This is my girlfriend, Rebecca," he says pointing to the girl next to him, as if I don’t know exactly who she is. And now I have to fücking smile at her. At least the girl is decent enough to look embarrassed, not like my stupid ex-boyfriend, "Who is this?"
"My boyfriend," I lie immediately, taking a step back to grab one of Rio's strong arms. Nico raises his eyebrows and looks him over from head to toe, considering how different Rio is from him. Bigger, taller and definitely much better looking. I hope it burns.
"Nice to meet you, buddy," Rio blurts out with a smile, following my lie smoothly. Nico just gives him a nod, very clearly feeling inferior.
"It was great seeing you, Nico, but we're in a hurry. See ya." I say so as not to drag this out any longer.
"Sure... see you later. Say hi to your mom next time you see her," he tells me and I nod starting to move Rio and the cart to get the hell out of here immediately. As soon as we enter a hallway to hide, I let go of my roommate and sigh, "Sorry for the lie."
"No problem, it was obviously necessary," he mutters, starting to walk down the new hallway as if nothing had happened, "Please, don’t tell me that ugly human was your boyfriend.”
"He was," I reply, with an embarrassed grimace, "Don't make me feel bad about that, I feel bad enough on my own. It doesn't help that the girl he cheated on me with is now his girlfriend."
"What?" He blurts out, dropping his mouth open in complete shock, "That jerk changed you? For her? God, humans are stupider than I thought."
Rio shakes his head and keeps walking, but I stand there for a second considering that even though he didn't realize it, that was something of a compliment. Maybe. Rebecca is very pretty, but Rio thinks I'm better. That's cute.
I follow him trying to shake off the way my whole body started to feel excited about it until suddenly Rio stops and I slam into his back, hard.
"Ouch," I groan, raising my hand to cover my nose. Rio is very, very lazy, he doesn't move unless it's completely mandatory, how is it possible that his back is pure immovable muscle? "What?"
"Look," he says, not caring that my nose will probably stay squished forever and then I see what got his attention. We're in the pet section. Rio holds up a black collar and shows it to me, "Do you think this could fit me?"
"Kinky kids, I love it," mutters an older woman walking past us. My face gets hot but Rio just lets out a laugh and winks at the woman.
"Your tongue is way too loose," I complain, shaking my head and grabbing the collar from his hands, "And no, this wouldn't fit your fat wolf’s neck. Besides, I never went accepted your stupid idea."
"Hey, I'm the one in charge here, remember?" he lets out, frowning and taking the collar out of my hands to find a bigger one, "We'll do what I say."
"Fine," I agree, crossing my arms and looking away, ignoring him when he shows me another collag.
"Lunanci, pay attention to me," he whines, taking my arm to pull me to him, but I refuse to meet his eyes, "Luna, come on. Just tell me if you think this will work, don't be mad at me."
I let out an annoyed sigh and turn to look at the new collar he grabbed. He's right, he's the one in charge here. And if he wants to do something completely stupid then it will be his fault.
"It’s better to buy two collars and put them together," I opine. Rio raises his eyebrows like it's the best advice in the world and grabs another, "Grab a leash, too."
Rio heeds me. And that's how I end up in my house with a man undressing in front of me while I try to act like he’s not the most perfect male specimen I've ever seen. I have to swallow and look away so that I'm not tempted to look in places I shouldn't.
Still, when I hear bones moving, I look back and see something fantastic happening in front of my eyes. The way his body shifts and gives entrance to an animal.
A huge animal that is now taking almost all of my empty space.
Rio's wolf is even more beautiful up close, his golden fur resembles the color of his hair, but his eyes are yellow. I should be nervous, but his gaze reassures me. It's making me feel... safe. Like he wants to tell me he won't do anything to hurt me, he even sits on his butt and waits for me to approach with the collar.
"Okay... Alpha, now I'm going to respectfully put this on you," I let him know and the wolf helps me, lowering his head to make it easier.
"All done," I say when I manage to attach the collar to his neck, we absolutely needed two. The wolf looks... not very happy about this, but he doesn't do anything to hurt me. I walk a few steps back and look at him. I've never seen a normal dog this big, I would totally lose my shït if I saw someone walking this thing on the street, "You still look dangerous... how about... how about I put a shirt on you? That would be nice."
The wolf doesn't answer, which is to be expected, although I wouldn't be surprised if he did, either. So I decide to walk over to Rio's things and grab one of his shirts with fabric that stretches. I carefully approach the wolf, expecting some warning growl, but he's just watching me intently.
"Okay," I mutter and dare to put the shirt on him. I have to break the shirt’s collar to get it over his head and then I have to bend down to get his big paws into the holes. The shirt manages to stretch enough for his body, but now he looks ridiculous and I can't help a little giggle when I see that. That does earn me a growl, "Sorry. You still look scary, I swear... just cuter."
He still looks annoyed, so I act on instinct and reach over to pet his head. And as soon as I do and take his ears in my hands, I feel something. An immediate connection. I close my eyes and get down on my knees in front of him.
“I don't like this, Lunanci,” he says in my head, loud and clear once again. I start shaking and my stomach fills with knots because now I'm talking one on one with him. With Alpha. Just him. In front of his true form. It feels different.
“I'm sorry, Alpha. Rio thinks it'll work,” I say in my mind, “I'll give you the shirt that smells like your brother so we can go look for him.”
“That's fine with me, what I don't like is seeing myself humiliated in front of you,” he replies and he seriously thinks that, I can feel it. I do my thing and try to calm that feeling, “I'm strong, I don't want you to think otherwise.”
“Why would I think otherwise? I just think it's cute,” I reply and my body melts against him. Alpha lowers his paws and somehow we end up... cuddling on the floor, “I think you're the most amazing being that has ever lived.”
“No. You are,” he replies and once again everything inside me melts. I don't know how insane I'm getting, but I think he's feeling something different now. Something... towards me? Maybe? “My healer.”
