All The Possibilities

"Now that there are only smart people in the room," Oliver says once we’re alone and settles in better to face me, "Can you explain?" Here it goes. "I have an intimate relationship with Rio’s wolf, but not with Rio himself," I begin after taking a long breath. I have to get this right, make sure my story makes sense with Rio's but I also have to make sure I don’t sound like a scammer, I can’t take another person thinking that about me, "I was a little surprised at first when a random man suddenly came up to me growling about me being his mate and him being a wolf, but to be completely honest, I didn't take it as a regular human would because I'm not a regular human. I've always been different from the rest, I've always had this special ability that no one else seems to have, so I've always been sure that there’s… more out there. Something bigger, something better than just my normal boring life. When Alpha came along, it was just a confirmation of something I already imagined and was ready for.” Oliver is giving me his full attention and has a slight smile on his face, so I continue. "Rio, the boy, wasn’t happy with this situation. He told me he was just in my city looking for his brother, so I took him to my psychic shop and I created a mental connection with him just to get to know him a little better and maybe help him find Alex. In this mental connection I felt another presence and understood a little better how there are two entities living in the same body. This entity asked me to call him Alpha and since then he is even more convinced that what we have is a fated mates bond and there is no power on earth that will convince him otherwise. Since Rio is not so sure about the reality of our bond, Alpha usually blocks him out completely while we are together. It's been like this for months. My romantic relationship is strictly with Alpha, Rio only sees me as a friend… so far," I admit, mumbling the last part, "Since I don't have a wolf inside my mind, I only have my own human emotions to guide me. I slowly fell in love with Alpha. I fell in love with his power, his determination, his nature. And since he brought me to Tallahide, I’ve been… more myself than ever. I feel connected to this place, energetically. I feel as if I belong here.” "That's so sweet," he says when I'm done and he’s still smiling, I think that’s a good sign, "I don't know much about life, but I do know that wolves never fall in love unless they've found their mate. They don't make mistakes. And they fall for life. So I believe one hundred percent that you two belong together, whatever the technicalities might be." This is going a thousand times better than I thought it would. I can hardly believe it. “I believe that as well.” "I want to know a little more about your abilities. The only thing I know about humans is that they have this... particular scent, not very pleasant, but you don't seem to share it. And I've never heard of human healers or anything like that. I still think there's something particular about you, you are different.” "Thank you, that’s the best compliment I’ve ever received," I blurt out, trying not to squeal with excitement, "There are no human healers. Or at least none like me. I used to call myself a psychic, Rio is the one who said I could be a healer and the word sounded perfect for me. I can heal energies and bad feelings, so it makes sense." "Well, lucky for you, I know a healer. She can heal wolves’ minds and bodies, she can heal and break bonds. She's one of my best friends. And she is someone who knows everything, so..." "Could I talk to her?" I interrupt. I don't want to be rude, but the idea of meeting a real healer is thrilling, I can't miss the opportunity. "Of course. In fact, we should go to her house right now," he dictates and gets up from the couch, "I haven't been out in weeks, I want to see my friend. Let's go." "But... aren't we going to tell the guys?" I ask, slowly getting up as Oliver walks to the door with determination, "Rio's going to get upset if I just disappear." "Let him be upset," he says, waving his hand like it's not important, "He is not the boss of you, okay? It’s the other way around, YOU are his boss. His sole purpose in life is to serve you. You have a lot to learn, but I'll teach you. Come on." It's not like he’s giving me any other choice, so I follow him out of the house to a red car. I get in there and let him drive me god knows where. "I can tell you're nervous, don't be." "Well, Rio's been stressed about me meeting other people, them finding out I'm a human, he's been keeping me hidden in Laurie's apartment. So I feel it's only fair that I at least send him a text? So he knows where I am?" "Nahhh," he blurts out and steals my phone before I can, "Girl, let him miss you. Let him worry about you. You need him to stress about you, that way he'll love you more. A stressed alpha is an alpha in love." "Really?" "Well, it works for me," he replies, shrugging with a naughty little smile as he drives like a demented person through the streets of Fallonmore. The energy around Oliver feels chaotic, but in a good way. I like him. "Uhm, are you really okay with the fact that I'm a human?" I ask quietly a few seconds later. "Yes, I am. Back in the day, I decided to trust a human and he never did anything to harm us. I lived in a place called Delton for four years, so I know a lot more about humans than Laurie or Rio. I know it's extremely difficult for humans to believe in the existence of anything magical anyway, so even if one of you decided to reveal our secret... it wouldn't do much good." "That's true. I tried to tell my classmates about my abilities and that only got me ridiculed," I roll my eyes, “Even people I’ve healed think I’m lying.” "Exactly. So don’t let Laurie or Rio try to tell you how life works, because they don’t know s**t… I love them, but they're still dumb kids.” "Tell me about it,” I mumble. "Have they been hard to deal with? Let me know, I'll take care of them. Laurie may be Alpha of whatever the f**k but he's still my son and that's never going to change, he's my little b***h," he blurts out and I let out a loud laugh. He’s so funny… but as much as I'd love to tell him the truth about how his son has treated me, I won't. I told him we're a team and I wasn't lying. I am loyal, after all. "They're just dumb kids, like you said. They both think if anyone finds out I'm human they'll lose their s**t. Rio says they'll burn me in the chapel." "Dear Mother," he laughs hysterically, "No, not at all. No one would kill you unless you tried to do something to f**k with us... but you won't, will you?" "Of course not," I assure. "Then you'll be perfectly safe. Still, it's a touchy subject," he adds and gives me a serious look for the first time, "There are ancient books that talk about a war between wolves and humans, how it's not smart to trust them. Traditional people faithfully believe in that and don't like humans at all, like Rio's mother. And most of our family, if I'm honest." "Oh…” I’m f****d. "But it's not life or death, don't look so scared. They'll just be passive aggressive," she clarifies, "It'll be okay. It's not that serious. Nothing is ever that serious." Oliver is extremely chill… maybe too much? I don’t know. "I really want Rio's parents to like me," I admit, "You think that’ll be easy? Are they as cool as you?" "Oh, honey, not at all. But no one is as cool as me," he replies with a pitiful pout, "Rio’s daddy is my nemesis, think of the most snobbish and annoying person in the universe, that's him... however, he loves his twins as much as one can love anything and he's been sleeping with one eye open, hoping one of them finds their fated mate just so the scales will even out and he'll stop feeling like I'm winning, you know, since Laurie found King. So it's very likely that his competition with me will overrule his distaste for humans." Winning over Rio's dad sounds difficult, but what Oliver has told me sounds promising, I can work with that. "And his mother? Rio has a rocky relationship with her, right?" "Well, my sister," he says and lets out a sigh, "I love her, I really do, but if I had to think of the most unbearable alpha in the whole world, it would be her." "It's that bad?" I ask with a grimace. "I mean, she won’t be mean to you. You might be human, but you scream omega so she'll be perfectly respectful... that doesn't change the fact that Lucinda would be the first one to burn you in the chapel if that was something we did. It's not, by the way, but alphas are aggressive and sometimes mindless beasts. They attack first and ask questions later. Lucinda hates humans, she thinks they're inferior." "That makes sense. Rio is the same way," I cross my arms, "He's a bit racist towards me." "It's his mother's doing. I'm sure he's afraid of her reaction, but he has to know that I'll back him up and help him. Lucina is my main b***h. She has a soft spot for me, I'm her little brother." "So you could convince her to accept me as Rio’s mate? Even if we don't know if that's real or not?" "I can and I will, but we have to have all the information first. Isabelle will help us out. If you're really Rio’s mate, that means you're not quite human and no one can get in the middle of a compatible couple. It's the opposite, actually. Everyone wants a compatible couple to be together by any means necessary," he rolls his eyes, "But if we find out that for some reason you're not really mates and you're just Rio's regular girlfriend, I'll be riding for you too, I'll take the fallout if I have to. You just have to have thick skin and put up with rude people." That's easy, I'm a pro at that now. "If that means I can stay with Rio, then I will," I assure and clasp my hands in my lap, begging and wishing that we really are mates because if we aren't... I wouldn't even have to worry about whether his family likes me or not. Rio doesn't love me yet. If I’m not his mate he’ll send me away and I'm sure of that. We get out out the car once we arrive to an equally large, but older house. Oliver opens the door without knocking and gets in. "Isabelle! You here?" Oliver shouts. “What the hell are you doing here?" someone asks from upstairs and I hear footsteps approaching, "I thought you were still in your nest with your pup." "I left him with my mom before I went crazy," he replies as an older woman comes down the stairs. She has completely crazy curly hair and a long floral dress. She must be in her sixties, "I've got a case for you, witch." "You're always on to something, Oli," the lady mutters, walking down until she reaches us, "Who is this... peculiar person in front of me?" "Meet Lunanci," he introduces me, "She's a human and a possible healer, but that's according to the kids, so they could be completely wrong." "Okay, that's very interesting... are we trying to figure out if she's like me or not?" She asks, watching me with narrowed eyes. Oliver nods and walks over to sit on the couch, but I stand firmly under Isabelle's eyes, "What are your qualifications to believe you're a healer, dear Lunanci? Lovely name, by the way." "Thank you, uhm," I take a breath, "Well, I can get into people's minds through touch... in a controlled environment, not just immediately. And I can get information about them. I feel like... well, when I'm in a session with someone, I can create this mental space where I see everything that's going on in their minds and I feel their energy as if it's a tangible thing. I can touch their negative emotions and make them feel better. So, for example, sadness is like a long, thick wire that is buried under sand. I can grab it and pull it out. Once I do that, they feel better." "Well, s**t, that sounds legit," she spits, looking surprised, "Can we create a session together? See, I do the same thing, so I'm interested to know what it's like to be with someone who does something similar." "Really?" I squeal, unable to control my excitement now, "I have so many questions!" "I'll see them in your mind. I’ll answer them." Dear lord, this is the best day of my life.
