Chapter Sixteen
Flight Into The Forest
Rozalia and I crashed through the brush, searching for the path going south to a village, and a road that will lead us out of Transylvania. I planned to run as far as we could, before exhaustion, darkness and the storm halted us. If fate was kind to us, we’d find a place to hide until dawn.
“Where are we headed?” Rozalia asked.
“South, I hope. But the farther we go, the less certain I will be of our direction. My compass was missing from my backpack. Karel must have taken it.” I gave her a reassuring smile. “It’s enough for the moment that we have escaped from the mansion.”
She looked back over her shoulder at the sky above the mountains. “The storm will make it hard for us to see, and slow us down.”
“It will hinder the wolves even more than us.
