The news spread quickly through the streets of Santo António.
Cristiano Ronaldo was leaving Andorinha.
For years, the small club had been his second home. It was where he had learned the basics of football, where he had scored his first goals, and where his coaches had first recognized that he possessed something different.
Now, a new challenge awaited him.
He had accepted the opportunity to join Club Desportivo Nacional, one of the strongest football academies on the island of Madeira.
For many young players, simply receiving such an invitation would have been enough.

On the morning of his first training session, Cristiano woke before sunrise.
The rest of the house was still asleep.
He quietly put on his training clothes, picked up his football boots, and sat on the edge of his bed.
His heart raced.
Not because he was afraid.
Because he couldn't wait.
His mother soon entered the room carrying a small breakfast.
"You've been awake for an hour," she said with a smile.
Cristiano laughed.
"I couldn't sleep."
She placed the food on the table.
"Eat. You'll need your strength."
As he ate, she noticed something unusual.
Normally, he talked endlessly about football.
That morning, he was silent.
"What are you thinking about?" she asked.
