I hadn’t been careful enough when we’d left Nevada and, as a result, they’d managed to catch up to us. Maybe if I hadn’t been so wrapped up in marrying Nadia—and then determined to consummate that marriage, which we most definitely did—maybe I wouldn’t have been so stupid. Maybe not. Either way, I wasn’t prepared to leave them another easy trail to follow.
Which meant we were driving all over the place. Other than stopping for gas, we basically kept going through the desert.
