EPISODE 3

SUSPECT I : RON JAMES I knew kayla better than anyone else, this was far from the ordinary. She wasnt the rebellious introverted type like Anita or Paula that could ghost everyone and run off for hours or days at a time. There had to be an explanation but with her regular movements I knew there could be only one person that might know where she is. "Hello are you listening," Mr.Lowry snapped his fingers infront of my face like hypnotist. I realized I had zoned out and we were still in the hallway alone with most students already in their classes. Mr.Lowry like the mind reader he was must have realized my concern with being late for class, "dont worry mrs.Werner I'll sign an apology note for you but we must know kayla's whereabouts." They all looked at me hoping I might know where she was but i was as clueless as them. "I really dont know i tried calling her phone a few minutes but it went to voicemail." Frank sighed heavily and nancy was on the verge of a breakdown. Kayla was their only child, their main focus in life was to make sure she was safe and had everything she needed. I didnt even know how to comprehend the panic they were in. Frank scratched his hair furiously, a self made business man as he liked to refer to himself I always got the feeling that he was a control freak. From the well organized 'you may enter but dont touch anything' home library, always speaking over or for his wife and checking on kayla every hour even at school, right now was not his best moment. "Mr. Lowry nobody has heard from her I think it's time we file a missing person's report," frank said. Mr. Lowry was quiet not responding to Frank's statement, he was a man of few words only speaking when necessary. "Mr. Lowry," frank said rather irritated that the guidance counsellor had left him hanging. "Yes Mr. Keegan I heard you I'm just on the fence with the issue it's still too early to overreact." "Too early...overreact!" Frank looked like he was about to blow his brain fuse, "this is my daughter goddamn it Lowry she has never been away from home without us knowing where she is I know my daughter!" He was basically shouting now causing a scene as faces popped out of doors in the hallway with interest. I was really uncomfortable and just wanted to leave. "Frank calm down Mr. Lowry was her mentor he cares too," nancy tried soothing him but he was all ape and no sense at that point. "Our daughter is missing Nancy and you want me to calm down none of you care!" "I'm her parent too but it's all about you and you're feelings." The conservation morphed into a marital arguement between the two and I really wanted to run off somewhere else, this is why I really never see myself getting married. Mr. Lowry was also uncomfortable being in the centre of things, I guess his counselling skills are only applicable to teenagers and not middle aged couples. "Go to class Mrs. Werner if you have any problem with you teacher just come by my office later and we can sort this out," lowry told me knowing it was about to get toxic. Kayla's parents either heard him and didnt bother or didnt hear at all with their racket but luckily I was free to go and get away from them. Unlike her parents I truly wasnt scared that kayla was missing, actually I think just might have had a bad day and was late for school, it was bound to happen anyway with her dating Ron James, the school's resident wannabe bad boy. Most girls from Edgewood to Accrington High would kill just to have Ron smile at them, but I was so above that teenage fawning nonsense. To be honest he was genuine eye candy with his tall and lean body, chiseled features, brown flowing hair and captivating cold blue eyes but with a bad attitude and extremely proud demeanor that was a major turnoff for me. How kayla was duped by slacker like him still had me baffled. I decided to skip first period and instead went to the washroom to clear my head. I remembered a few months back right in this very room when kayla told me Ron had asked her out. "Sooo RJ asked me out to Danny's party." "RJ?" "Ron James." "Uuurrgggh you said no right." "Actually I said I'll think about it." "He's bad news he's only interested in adding you're name to his hit list so he can brag about it." "You just hate him like you hate most people." "I dont hate most people I just dont like them." "You knowq11 you really should let me give you a therapy session get all the negativity out of you." "Ha I'd like to see you try pessimism is in my blood." "Well if you want to live your life with a big frown that's you I'm going to try new things and that includes Ron James." She turned to face me and winked with grin before walking past me to the exit. I smiled and turned around to follow her out, ron was an i***t but if there was anyone who could put him in his place it was Kayla. Things didnt go to plan and she got stuck with him for three months, even though she played it cool I knew she was unhappy inside and something was keeping her tethered to him. The more I asked myself this questions the more I wondered whether ron knew anything. There was only one way to know and that was by questioning him myself.
