Malia sucked in a breath as Shannon reached her and her scowl never wavered. “I was not finished with you yet young lady! How dare you walk away from me in the middle of a conversation! I have never seen anyone so rude in my entire life.”
Without thinking about it Malia took a step back away from Shannon afraid that she would grab her arm again in her anger. The motion seemed to stop her in her tracks and she stared at Malia in shock. The fact that she had been afraid of Shannon had registered with her stepmother and it seemed to throw her off balance for a moment. She recovered from her state and abruptly turned away from Malia and walked back down the hallway as if the fact that she had reacted in fear was enough to cause her to want to be anywhere
