Today she found out that me and Catherine were dating but actually it's not. “Nicholas! time for you meds!” Catherine shout. “Meds my ass!”I don't want to drink that kind of stuff it makes me vomit. My Parents went to new York for third business while my fiancé is busy with her school and work and I miss her so much. Should I call her? No. She probably thinks I'm dead or dying, which in this world are still the same thing. Catherine walk back inside “Drink!” she said. I know she's trying to make me drink this s**t. She hand it to me like a baby with all the care that someone who has never drank before gives their infant child. “Drink Nicholas!” I didn't wanna hurt her feelings so I do what she says. “You have to drink it now.” She said. “What was I supposed to do. “Okay...” I took small sips out of the cup. It burned and made me gag. I put my cup down and start to cry because I can't take anymore. “Come on Nicholas. Drink it up!”She said. This wasn't how I wanted this day to go. I want everything perfect. “No! I'm leaving. You can't stop me Catherine.” I say as I grab my things and leave. Catherine tried to stop me but I keep running. I'm going back home. Home where no one knows anything about me. I hate my family. Why do they even bother to visit me, when they're so far away from me. They're probably living happily in some rich mansion somewhere. I wish I could be free. After an hour or so I reach my house. It's dark and I feel like I'm alone at home. “Mom I'm home!” I shouted. Nothing. I felt alone and angry. Why couldn't I just live my life without anyone f*****g around with me. I decided to take a bath. That always helps me calm down. I turn off the water and hop out of the tub. I get into my pajamas and crawl into bed. I try to go to sleep but nothing happens. I look at the nightstand clock. It's 3:30 in the morning and I still haven't fallen asleep. I turn onto my side. I think about everything that happened today and how happy I am at the end of the day and then I remember that I have cancer. I'm going to die soon. A loud crash sound wakes me up. s**t. Was there something I dropped last night? I walk to my dresser and search through my drawers looking for my glasses that I left on the night stand. I finally find them, thank god. “s**t! What if it's broken?”I open the door and walk down the stairs and to the front door. I look outside hoping to see a cat or something. My phone rang and I immediately answer it. “Nicholas! There's a intruder in your house they are five wearing all black and they have guns!” I heard Charles shout. “I heard you mother fucker just don't shout!” I shouted back. I put the phone away and look outside again, nothing is moving. I decide not to freak out and wait until morning to call someone about this. I quickly grab a jacket and car keys and go outside. As soon as I step foot outside, my heart stops. My eyes widen when I realize exactly who it is. Oh s**t! The man was still standing there holding his gun with one hand and another one covered in blood holding a large cut on his head. He noticed me staring at him and gave me a dirty look. “Hello sir.” I said trying to calm myself down. “Who are you?” He asked. His voice sounded like a growl. This is going to be one interesting week. “I'm Nicholas Dawson. You broke into our home, so you should know what you're walking towards.” “That doesn't answer my question.” I try to ignore the shiver that went through my body because of his words. “I live here and have been notified by the police that a stranger had broken into the house without permission. If you don't mind, I would kindly suggest that you leave. The neighbors are gonna get suspicious if we both stay out here much longer. And besides, this isn'n exactly an ideal place to be murdered so why don't you come inside and explain yourself? We've got some good news for you.” He looked taken back by my statement but decided to humor me. He followed me inside and shut the door behind him. He looked around curiously at everything. “I'm afraid you'll have to excuse the mess. I usually clean it everyday but sometimes it gets really messy and I end up cleaning most of my stuff. Not that I don't want to help but it kinda takes time and energy to do this. I mean I've only had this job for two months and I already can't seem to keep up with it.” I ramble off while gesturing to the mess around us. He looks at the mess and seems more confused than angry. Maybe he's too drunk to understand the situation and just wants to be left alone. “So...what brings you to this neighborhood?” I try to change the topic before I say something stupid, like invite him to come upstairs. “I just felt like seeing where everyone lives.” He says bluntly. “Ah...uh..well that makes sense but why now? Is this the first time you've gone over this way?” His eyes turn hard. “No.” “Why then did you stop to see where everyone lived?” He grunts. “Just curious. I thought that maybe you were right.” I laugh nervously. “Of course I'm right, I am an attorney after all. So how do you think of me? A criminal genius?” “You're not wrong. But also you're not the smartest person in town.” What? Did he hit his head harder than he thought when he fell? Or is he just being a smart ass? I decide not to take any chances with his ego so I ask, “How so?” He sighs heavily and walks closer to me causing me to feel slightly intimidated. His eyes bore into mine as he leans forward. He looks at my lips like he could read my thoughts as he smirks, “You look nice tonight.” Is he flirting with me?! I try my best not to laugh. I can't let myself get excited here. I give a small smile. “Thanks I guess. Do you always stare at people's lips?” “Yes.” He answers honestly. “Huh. I never knew that was a thing.” I joke. He looks annoyed at my response. “Hey it' s not like it's illegal! And anyway I've got better things to worry about than whatever's on your mind. Like what's going to happen to you once I tell my boss about this incident? Are you gonna get fired? Get arrested for trespassing?” “I doubt they'll arrest me.” “Why not?” “I'm a cop.” He says smugly like that explains everything. Well I guess it does. I raise my eyebrows and ask, “And?” “And?” He replies sarcastically. “And you've seen what cops are like. You'd probably end up dead anyways if you tried to attack me!” He lets out a soft chuckle and I think that this time he might actually be smiling. I didn't know cops had that ability. “I doubt that. They would be too busy arresting themselves.” “If you say so.” I mutter. We sit in comfortable silence for a few minutes as I try to think of something else to say. “Do you live here alone?” He asks finally breaking the silence. I nod hesitantly. “Good because otherwise they might start looking for you.” He chuckles darkly. My stomach drops as I fear what could happen to me. Why was he being so nice today? It was almost as if we weren't enemies anymore. I don't know what to make of him. Suddenly, his face changes from playful to deadly serious. He stands up, grabs my arm tightly and stares deep into my eyes. “Whatever you do, DO NOT TALK TO ANYONE OR YOU WILL DIE.” Then he turns around, opens the door and disappears from my sight. I look down at his hand on my arm, which I realized was shaking. His grip must be painful since I can feel every single scar and burn on my arms, which was making me cringe. It's like he's branding me to remember these horrors that happened to me. It makes me feel uneasy. I look at my watch, 4 AM. How long has he been waiting out here for? The sound of footsteps approach my door. Whoever was outside was coming inside and I couldn't do anything but hide under my blankets hoping they wouldn't notice me. I hear a door close and footsteps heading in the direction of my kitchen. My eyes open widely. He was leaving the room and locking it from the other side. Fuck! I thought. I didn't even think about how dangerous it was to lock the front door. He could be a murderer right now and I'm sleeping peacefully right under his nose. But the door opened and closed again. f**k! I didn't even realize he left. What do I do? Should I stay here for the rest of my life? Or do I go downstairs and risk it all? I groan internally cursing my own stupidity. I slowly slip out of bed grabbing my blanket and making sure I'm not spotted. When I make sure that he won't notice me I quickly slip my shoes on and exit the room. I look around to make sure no one sees me as I sneak out the door. I take a deep breath trying to steady my nerves. This wasn't happening. I don' t need this. I should get out of here. I start making my way to the main door to open and escape when I hear noises coming from somewhere. It sounds like someone is shouting but I can't quite hear them. I creep closer to where the noise came from. The livingroom? My heart starts pounding faster, I suddenly feel really scared. I take slow steps toward the door, making sure to remain silent. When I reach the door and push it gently, it opens easily. I walk inside as quietly as possible. There's no one in the room. What the hell? I thought I heard yelling. I check all the rooms. No one. Where are they? I start searching the whole house, starting with the basement. Nothing. I go upstairs to the bedroom. Nothing either. I start to panic, why the hell aren't they here yet? Am I supposed to search the entire damn house by myself? I don't even know who he is or where he went! Fuck! This shouldn't be happening! I run into the hall and look frantically everywhere for some kind of light switch. I find none. What should I do now? How far can I possibly get? Can I make it to my car? Will I survive? A voice sounds from beside me and I jump and scream. As soon I reached my phone I call Charles again. “You mother f*****g bastard! Where are the others?!” “They are coming!”He shouted panicking. “If there's one thing I hate more then someone telling me lies! You better believe they will show up soon! If you don't show yourself immediately or else I swear I'll f*****g kill you!” I threatened him angrily. “Don't threaten me, little boy. You'll lose.” The man voice change it wasn't Charles threatens me back. "Who the hell are you!?" I yell furiously. "Oh I know who I am." He replies calmly with amusement dripping in his voice. I was beyond pissed now and I didn't know whether I wanted to kill him or run away screaming in fright like the coward that he is. My hands started trembling at the thought of killing someone. I haven't killed anyone seriously in years. I know I won't be able to control it. That thought terrifies me. “You'll learn who I am in exactly 6 seconds. Now hurry up. The sooner you show yourself, the longer it'll take for my friends to get here and the longer it will take for you to get hurt.” I grit my teeth and try to calm down. “I'll show myself right now if you don't start walking towards me. And if you dare try to pull something, I'll kill you in a second.” His voice becomes cold and threatening. I shiver at his sudden tone change. "Are you listening to me, boy?! I'm warning you. Don't make me do it!" I slowly start walking towards him with my eyes trained on the floor. At the corner of my eye, I see him moving out of the corner of my eye. He must be standing behind me. I turn around and start walking backwards while keeping my eyes glued on the ground. “Now look into my eyes when you talk. Don't make me repeat myself.” He said sternly. Once I finally looked at him I saw a devilish smile plastered on his face. “What the f**k did you do to me?” I growled out. “You will find out soon enough. Just promise me one thing, kid, you'll listen to every word I'm saying or else...” He doesn't finish his sentence. Instead he raises his left eyebrow. “Or else what?” “You'll end up dead.” He answered bluntly without hesitation. “Yeah well if that happens I don't care what happens to you.” I said, clenching my fists. He nods approvingly. “Very mature.” “Where's the others?” I ask changing the subject. “That' s none of your concern.” He replied casually. “How many of them are there?" I asked curiously. “Just five.” He replies nonchalantly as if five was nothing. I furrowed my brows together. “So how come I can't see any of them?” “They're hiding from you. I have ordered them to stay hidden from you until after the meeting tomorrow morning. We have no idea how many of those assholes are still alive. And it's better safe than sorry.” He says smirking as if he just said the funniest joke ever. “Well, whoever sent them was wrong then. They're dead men walking because I want to kill them!” I shout furiously. “No, you wouldn't dare.” He says confidently. “Try me! You want them gone? I'm gonna put every last bullet in their head!” I threatened him. “That won't help. Your bullets won't stop them. You're not going to shoot them, they don't die. You'll only waste bullets and I know how much you hate wasting ammo.” My face turned pale as he revealed his information. What the hell were they planning next? “But you don' t understand. These guys are too strong for us to win against. We may have been stronger before but not anymore. We are no match for them.” He added. “And why is that?” I asked intrigued. “Because they had a plan for each of our weaknesses. As long as we don't give them what they want they won't kill us. I've never seen such a perfect setup and they used our weakness to lure us out. They knew that we'd all eventually meet here. So they set up everything perfectly and waited for us to arrive so that they could attack us all at once. Our enemies have been preparing their army for months and I doubt they even needed much time. But when we arrived they attacked them first, forcing them to retreat or risk being completely wiped out.” His words echoed through my mind, trying to figure out how I could defeat them all. “So who is the leader of these guys? Who do you think?” I asked him. His gaze shifts to look somewhere else. “That man is known only as the leader... The strongest in the organization.” “The leader of the organization?” “Yes.” “What organization?” I tried again. “The most powerful one in the world... The one I swore I would destroy if I ever met one of them.” “And which organization is he associated with? Is it a government agency? An intelligence service? A private security company? Or a mob?” “None of these things. The most powerful group is called the Order of Black Lotus.” “The Black Lotus?” I repeated confused. “It means they're ruthless, merciless, dangerous and dangerous people... They operate entirely under contract with the mafia.” “Then how do they plan on getting out of the country?” “They already have. There was never any agreement between them and the Mafia. It was just a game they both played to make themselves feel big and important. In the end they got caught, their plans to leave the country were ruined. But they couldn't let the Mafia get away with this so they decided to use other methods. To bring down both the mafia and the police force.” “Wait a minute? Did you say mafia?” “In a nutshell yes.” “That makes absolutely no sense.” “We can work on that later. For now we need to get away from here.” I nodded. “Ok, I'll follow you wherever you go but if I get shot, I'll kill you first and then myself. Deal?” He chuckles humorlessly. “Deal.” When I woke up in the morning I realised that I was alone. There was no sign of either Charles or the others nor was there any message anywhere on my phone. I searched the whole room for Charles and I found nothing. I searched around inside my luggage to see if anything might have fell out. Nothing was missing though and I still couldn't figure out how they managed to escape. Why didn't they tell me anything beforehand? Did they expect me to believe whatever bullshit they spewed? I felt frustrated and angry. How many times now had I almost died and lost the chance of finding out who was really behind all this? Why did they suddenly decide to reveal all their secrets now after all this time? I couldn't believe it! Maybe I should've told the police about my discovery instead of letting Charles convince me otherwise... I couldn't risk anything at this point. I needed to gather information and prepare myself. No matter what, I was still determined to take these bastards down and make sure they pay for all the damage they had done to me, to my family and everything else they took from us.
