Just as Natalie finishes her meal and prepares to rest, a knock on the door startles her. She's surprised, as she has few friends left, and the ones she had abandoned her when her mother fell ill. They didn't know how to react to her situation, and she understood.
The only person who still checks in on her occasionally is Ben, her ex-boyfriend. They ended things because she couldn't balance caring for her mom with being in a relationship. Ben still wants to rekindle their romance and visits her whenever he's in town, but he's not back yet, and he would have told her if he were.
