Chapter 1: The Ball

799 Words
Aura Today was the day, The Alpha Ball was about to begin. Every unmated female over seventeen had to attend. On her sixteenth birthday female wolves have a vision of their Mate and their scent is permanently engraved into memory. Most girls run off following their noses to find their mates. I unfortunately was in a car crash two days before my sixteenth birthday and was in a coma for four months after. I never got my vision, so I have no idea who my mate will be. I looked in the mirror, glancing at the girl before me. I was still really skinny from being hooked up to life support machines for almost half a year, but I still had curves in the right places. My green eyes held a mystery to them and my strawberry blonde hair curled uncontrollably around my face. I wore a grey spaghetti strapped sliver dress that hugged my curves nicely and sparkling crystal covered heels. "Are you ready Sweetheart," My Mum pulled my gaze from my reflection "I think so Mum," I replied " I'm so proud of you sweetie, picking yourself up and getting on with life after the crash. Oh and I have already packed your all your things ready for you to move in with your mate." That was the plan meet my mate, move in together and live the rest of our lives happily ever after. "Alright Mum, I've gotta go or i'll be late. I'll call you as soon as anything exciting happens," I said giving her a hug and kiss on the cheek. "Good luck" She yelled after me. I walked out the front door and got in my black Mercedes. Its only a twenty minute drive to the pack house, hopefully the parking isn't too bad. Driving through the winding roads I listened to the radio trying to keep my nervous heart in check with the anticipation of meeting my mate. I pulled up pretty close to the pack house an only have to walk a hundred meters to get in. The house was packed, within my pack we had around four hundred wolves but because of the ball it looks like those number quadrupled. The anticipation was getting to me I was so nervous but so excited at the same time. I wondered if my mate would have brown eyes, or blue or green or even black. Hopefully he was tall and could easily engulf me within his arms. Walking through the pack house I arrived at the ballroom. The pack had decorated the room with streamers and balloons, most importantly there were five large tables stocked with food.I looked over the corner and saw my best friend, Alec. I shouted his name and headed over. " Hey gurl," He said giving me a side hug "Have you seen the amount of smokin hotties around tonight!!" He yelled in my ear excitedly. I nodded but in reality no one seemed to stand out to me, I was only interested in the other half of my soul. Even if I didn't know what he looked like. "I really hope I find him tonight, i'll be heart broken having to wait another year," Alec said. Alec was like me in a way. Because he was gay and his mate would be a male neither of them would get the vision and so they would have to rely on luck to find each other. The night bore on and no one stood out to me, Alec and I had started to eat our emotions about and hour ago when it seemed almost everyone but us had managed to find their mates. As the ball was ending the everyone was called over to the stage to hear from the Alpha Prince on behalf of his father the King. Alec and I shuffled over behind the rest of the crowd. The Prince started his speech and me being the short ass I am couldn't see anything but the backs of the wolves in front of me. Suddenly the scent of the ocean and earth hit my nose. It had to be my mate. I lifted my nose and started following the scent. Pushing my way through the crowd and moving towards the side of the stage. I found the figure the scent belonged to. His back was to me, he had to be a foot and a half taller than me and had deep black spiky hair. I longed to see his eyes and know his name. Suddenly he turned to face me, my pair of green eyes met his pair of grey and the halves of soul seemed to connect. "Mate," He said as he wrapped his arms around me into an embrace I never wanted to leave.
