Chapter 2 - Not a Cinderella story

1075 Words
Dominik’s POV My father always said Lunas are meant to be pup bearers and nothing more. They don't control the pack. They have no say in decisions. Their only role is to give birth to Alphas. I never took him seriously. Becca—my Luna—we’d been friends since we were twelve. When we turned eighteen, I chose her to be my mate, my future Luna. Neither of us had found our fated mates, so it made sense. At twenty-one, she officially became Luna, and I took my rightful place as Alpha of Moonpack. Everything was going well. We made decisions together. We fought wars side by side for two solid years. She was strong, fierce, respected. And then—just last week—she rejected me. For who? That low-life, pathetic excuse of an Alpha—Mason. I always thought Becca loved me. She was my strength—my first love. When my mother said, “She is not the one. The Moon Goddess didn’t choose her. She will let you down,” I didn’t listen. I stood by her side. I gave her my heart. And all she did was rip it out without thinking twice. She told the elders I was never her true mate. That she deserved to be with her so-called “powerful Alpha.” I will never forget that humiliation. I will never forgive it. And I will never let anyone close to my heart again. From now on, I’ll do what my father did— Get a Luna who’s only good enough to bear me an heir. Nothing more. I didn’t want another mate. At first, I objected. But the elders insisted—I had to continue my legacy. They created a gathering ceremony. All I had to do was choose one of the she-wolves, since I hadn’t found my mate. The elders even wanted to choose for me. They were eyeing the strongest she-wolves in Moonpack. But I refused. I wanted to choose for myself. I wanted someone I could control. Someone not tied to the elders' families. Someone weak. As I prepared for the gathering, I wore black pants and a blue T-shirt. Nothing fancy. I wanted to blend in with the crowd. When I arrived, I walked among them unnoticed. Only my Beta could spot me from afar. The elders were already wondering where I was. I searched the crowd, scanning every face. But none of them felt right. None stood out. Then I heard my wolf, Dom. Mate. He growled the word uncontrollably. I tried to push him down, to silence him— But then… I stopped. She was standing right in front of me. A blonde girl in a yellow dress. Her lips sparkled with soft pink gloss. Everything about her was delicate. Beautiful. She’s an omega, I whispered to myself. She looked frightened, like she was trying to run from someone. Then Dom growled in my head—Go. Grab her. Now. Kira’s POV He wouldn’t let me go. His grip was so tight, I could feel my heartbeat pounding in my ears. But his scent… it was familiar. I sniffed again, slowly— Was he the banana bread scent? Suddenly, Kiki growled inside me, her voice echoing in my head. “Mate.” My heart nearly stopped. Then— “Kira! What the hell are you doing here? Weren’t you supposed to be at the flower stand?” My stepmother’s voice cut through the crowd like a blade. She stormed toward me, unaware of the man still holding my hand tightly. “I told you, Mom, this is what Kira does. She’s always hanging out with her lame excuse of a friend,” Annabel added, smirking as she tried to stir the fire. “You are so dead when we get home,” my stepmother hissed as she grabbed my other wrist. That’s when she finally looked up—and noticed him. “Oh, I see. So you’re here hanging out with your lover? You’ve disgraced your father’s name—becoming the hoe of Moonpack?” she spat. “Watch your tongue, woman.” His voice was like thunder. Calm, but commanding. I froze. I wanted to speak, to say something—anything—but the moment he opened his mouth, his words sounded like music. Kiki purred in my head: “We found him.” Before my stepmother could lash out again, Sarah—who had been standing silently behind us—suddenly stepped forward. Her eyes were wide, like she had seen a ghost. Then she bowed her head. “Alpha Dominik,” she whispered. My stepmother went pale. Annabel gasped. Even Collins’ jaw dropped. And then it hit me. The Alpha… is my mate. I had no idea what was happening—I swear. He was still holding my hand, tightly, like he wasn’t planning to let go. He ignored the people bowing, even my stepmother, who quickly stepped aside with her head down, as he dragged me through the crowd. We walked straight to the elders, who were just as shocked to see me with the Alpha. Then he turned to everyone and said loudly, “Everyone, this is my mate and your Luna. Respect her, as she is going to be the mother to our future Alpha—and to you all.” Gasps. Whispers. Stares. I could feel their eyes on me—piercing, judging. The other she-wolves were glaring at me with envy. How could an orphan omega be their Luna? Then I spotted my friends. They were smiling, happy for me. My stepmother’s face twisted in confusion and doubt. And me? I was just… lost. I’m only eighteen. I didn’t ask for this. I had no idea what I was thinking. From being a housemaid in my own home to becoming the Luna of Moonpack. It feels like a fairytale. This doesn’t feel real—I might be dreaming. I closed my eyes… and slowly opened them. But then… I looked at him. At the Alpha. His blue eyes held mine. They were cold, yet charming. Distant, yet magnetic. Maybe this is my fate. Maybe I’ve found my mate. My prince charming. But just as I was about to smile—just as Kiki purred again— He leaned in and whispered coldly into my ear: “Don’t get used to it, omega. You’re just here to give me an heir.”
