I startled, looking up to find Damian leaning against the edge of my desk, arms crossed, a faint smile tugging at the corner of his mouth despite the exhaustion still visible beneath his eyes. The office had emptied out around us, the late afternoon light slanting gold through the windows, and somewhere in the past hour the ordinary rhythm of the day had settled fully back into place.
