The Four Founders

The old projector hummed softly. Dust floated through the beam of light as the black-and-white recording came to life. Hope couldn't look away. For the first time, she was seeing Adrian Kingsley not as the legendary philanthropist whose story had inspired millions... But as a young man. He looked no older than thirty. His hair was darker, his face clean-shaven, and his eyes carried the determination of someone who believed he could change the world. Beside him stood Michael Sterling, smiling confidently. Jonathan Blackwood folded his arms, his expression serious. Richard Knight stood quietly at the edge of the group, watching everyone else. The recording began. "My name is Adrian Kingsley," the younger Adrian said into the camera. "If you are watching this, then Project Raven has either succeeded beyond our dreams..." "...or failed beyond our fears." Hope felt a lump form in her throat. Hearing her grandfather's voice again after so many years was surreal. The Adrian she had grown up reading about suddenly felt real. Jonathan stepped into view. "We created Project Raven because justice moves too slowly." "So we decided to become its shield." Michael nodded. "We will protect children." "We will expose corruption." "And we will never allow wealth to stand above truth." Hope glanced at Damien. "If that's true..." "Then why did everything fall apart?" Damien didn't answer. He simply gestured toward the screen. "Keep watching." --- The video jumped ahead. A new date appeared. March 3, 1978. The atmosphere had changed. The four founders no longer looked united. Jonathan slammed his hand on the table. "We have enough influence to control governments." Adrian immediately stood. "That was never our purpose." Richard remained silent. Michael rubbed his forehead. "Jonathan..." "We agreed Raven would protect people." Jonathan laughed bitterly. "Protection requires power." "And power requires control." Adrian shook his head. "Absolute power corrupts everyone." Jonathan stared at him. "Even you?" The room fell silent. Hope watched the argument unfold with growing unease. This wasn't merely a disagreement. It was the beginning of a war. --- The recording skipped forward once more. This time the image was shaky. Someone was holding the camera while walking. Smoke filled the hallway. People shouted in the background. Hope recognized the location immediately. "Raven Hall..." Adrian's voice shouted from off-screen. "Everyone get out!" The image blurred. A loud explosion echoed. Then... Jonathan's furious voice rang out. "You betrayed me!" The camera fell to the floor. The recording ended in static. Silence filled the underground chamber. Hope slowly turned toward Damien. "My grandfather tried to save everyone." Damien's jaw tightened. "That's one version of history." Hope crossed her arms. "What aren't you telling me?" Damien walked to a nearby cabinet. He removed a weathered envelope sealed with black wax. "My father left this for me." He carefully opened it. Inside was a handwritten letter. "It says Adrian didn't just reject Project Raven..." Damien looked Hope directly in the eyes. "He stole something." Hope frowned. "What?" Damien answered with quiet certainty. "The Raven Archive." Alexander had mentioned it only once, years ago during his training inside Raven. A collection of evidence... Secrets... Records... Powerful enough to destroy presidents, billionaires, and criminal empires alike. Hope's breathing slowed. "My grandfather hid it?" Damien nodded. "And now..." He stepped closer. "Only a Kingsley can unlock its location." At that exact moment, alarms blared throughout the underground complex. One of Damien's guards rushed into the room. "Sir!" Damien turned sharply. "What is it?" "We've detected intruders." He frowned. "Police?" The guard shook his head. "No." "It's Alexander Knight..." "...and he's not alone." Damien smiled for the first time. "So..." "The prodigal son has finally chosen a side."
