Chapter 10

991 Words
After leaving Nat's apartment I'd made my way to a local hotel. This is where I managed to get a place to stay for the time being. I had gotten this room by taking advantage of a young couple who'd previously checked out while I was in the lobby. The plan was pretty easy since all I needed was the reception's phone number and a sorry excuse for the couple to 'come back' to the hotel. After I had gotten fully into the hotel, I took the time to admire the beauty of this place, the furniture and decor were modern, and the employees who worked there all wore posh and fitted clothing, which I thought was rather welcoming. I'd never been in such a clean place on my own in so long, I had almost forgotten the feeling of living like a normal, free person. When I reached my room on the fifth floor, the hotel's housekeepers were busily fixing up the place. I wanted to wait for them to finish but I was already in the room, and it would've been awkward to just leave, so I had to awkwardly ask them to finish their duties until morning when I'd be absent. As they left I let out a tired sigh, shrugging my backpack off my shoulders and onto the floor, where I then slid it under the bed. My shoulders ached from having the heavyweight of those vials on my back for most of the day, so I decided to stretch them out a bit, which caused the unsettling sound of my bones clicking. I walk over to a pair of doors, which show the beauty of the dark outside. Since the rain stopped, all that was left of the storm was the small lickers of lightning that lit up my room. This light was soon followed by the satisfying rumble of the sky, it was very dumb and dangerous of me to go out in the open like this, but I wanted to experience the cold brush of the wind and surreal weather for myself. I may live in a highly secret and dangerous world, but I wasn't going to let that world prevent me from enjoying a small experience like this one. After a few moments of pure bliss, I decided to retreat back into the comfort of my room. Gently, I closed the doors and curtains making sure that there were no gaps or slits in the curtains, this was so that no snippers could see through and take a lucky shot. Resourcefully I used the vase's from the shelves as an alarm, the metal of the door and the glass of the vases would surely make enough noise to wake me. I had also placed ornaments on the inside of the windows for the same purpose; to alert me of any intruder. I knew I had to be vigilant as I slept, as it was the only time I was vulnerable. Even Though I dreaded sleep due to the nightmares, I knew I had to since I desperately needed the energy, especially if I had to fight certain agents of the Elite that were still trying to hunt me down. Once my precautions were in place, I turned the lights off and got into the overly comfortable bed. My thoughts start to wander as I lie in the silence. I wondered about what I was to do when I did get to America, and if I was ever going to get a normal life where I wouldn't have to worry about my past catching up with me. Even Though I had skills for fighting, and in some ways for the normal world, I don't actually know the basics of having a normal life where I perhaps have a family or maybe a job to go to. ... My body shakes and my heartbeat is quick, my leather boots slam against the stoned floor as blood runs from the open wound on the shoulder, it was painful. I can feel my eyes starting to blur as I hide behind the furthest wall in the warehouse. I was completely pissed about this whole mission, as I was never told the number of agents which would be in this damn place. This lack of knowledge annoyingly ended up with me in pain with a bullet lodged in my bloody shoulder. As the agents hesitantly approached,I slowly took deep breaths to calm my heart and fortunately for me, it worked. I stood up, much to my body's objection. The blood still pours out as it starts to form a larger stain on my jacket. As I come from behind the wall, I reach out my hand ready to use my magic, but instead, I let out a painful cry as another poisoned bullet is sent into my other shoulder, this causes my magic to explode in a fit of grey and black strands, travelling towards the agents who start shooting. The bullets never reach my skin as they drop to the floor either because they're dead or knocked out.  As the last strands of my magic leave my body, I fall to the floor in a heap with my eyelids heavy and unstoppable, due to the lack of energy. I fight to stay awake long enough to see a blurrily, faint figure of a man kneel down in front of me. His eyes shine a beautiful green colour, but as he caresses my cheek they turn a shade of yellow. The simple touch immediately sends me to sleep, as everything goes black. Suddenly,I jolt awake and my hand quickly goes to my cheek, where the mysterious man in my dream had previously had his hand. I do a quick survey of the room expecting someone to be there but there was nothing, no one. I fall back onto my pillow sighing as I rest my eyes once again.
