Chapter 12

909 Words
Since Graycen was still here I decided not to tell her just yet, I don't want him knowing about my crooked past as I know that he could probably use the information to his advantage. After hours of small talk and watching the tv, Graycen finally decided to leave. As he made his way to the front door he turned around and hesitantly shook my hand, "We'll meet again?" "Perhaps" I half-smile, walking back into the living room while Nat says her goodbyes. The door shuts and it's followed by footsteps, as Nat walks back into the living room, jumping back onto the couch. "Well?" She asked with one of her eyebrows raised expectantly. "Well, what?" I slightly smiled, as I leant back getting into a comfortable position. I know playing dumb wasn't the best option since she probably knew that I know what she was referring to, but I like annoying her so, oh well. " You know what, you promised you'd tell me" " Did I really promise?" I smirk, "Or did I just make it seem that I did" "Stop playing games M. I want to know the reason why you won't stop doing the Elite's dirty work since you definitely have nothing to keep you there." My smile disappears as she crosses her arms, she was quite serious about this. " I do have something to keep me there, and for your information, I haven't been doing any of their dirty work for years," I could feel my face starting to heat up as I spoke, I've never spoken about this before, and talking about it was certainly a sensitive topic for me. " What? I don't understand how? I've seen all of the reports about men and women who were associated with the Elite, all of their reports said 'neutralised'," she frowns sitting up straight. " I have my ways Nat, you know that. If I can get a trained assassin under their radar I can certainly get a few squints and agents under." "But how do you know if they were innocent or not, you could've given those bad men and women a chance to do more harm." I could see the anger in her eyes as she stared at me in disbelief. "When I was drifting between sites I took the opportunity to go digging in the secure files, fortunately for me, the Elite still have the printed files. After that it was easy, I checked their files, found a few factors that stood out hinting that they were generally innocent, and when the time came for them to be killed, I simply faked their deaths and transported them out of the country," I spoke slowly and calmly, making sure that Nat understands but She doesn't speak as she stares blankly at me. I decide to proceed. "Sure, many of those people didn't survive, but the majority got out. Thankfully I had help from a few connections around the world, which made my whole operation go smoothly. I may seem like a bad person when you read my files, but when you fully realise why I did the things I did, that's when you truly see that  I'm not the bad person here." After a few minutes of silence, Nat finally speaks with a soft expression, "I'm sorry for not seeing, I should've connected the dots after I read those files." "It's alright, you connected the dots, just not in the right order." "You didn't say what's keeping you at the Elite. I know helping those people is one, but I know you, you wouldn't do this for years on end unless there was a bigger picture to be seen. So tell me, what world-destroying things does Mercy have?" She smiles. " Files" I simply say shifting in my seat. "Files? I'm not sure if I'm understanding, what for?" She questions, reaching for her coffee from this morning. " Over the past couple of years, I've been collecting entail about the Elite. This information includes stealth missions, drug transportation, human trafficking and so on." "So, basically all this information is capable of taking down the organisation," Nat smiles brightly. "Pretty much, yeah. That's why I need a new passport, to get into America to collect these files," I softly smile at her. "I see, I see. When shall we go then?" I frown leaning forward with my heads that were behind my head moving to my lap. 'We'? She wouldn't, it would be stupid of her to come as she has done so well to hide all this time. "  I will go in preferably two days' time" "No. We will go together, I want to help get rid of those bastards even if I have to sacrifice this life for the cause" I frown, " What about Gabriel and Graycen? You have people who care about you, Nat, I can't ask you to do this." " I'm coming, and that's final. Plus, what am I going to do if my best friend needs my help and I'm not there?" " I guess I'm stuck with you," I smile. "I guess you are" ------------------------------ Hey Guys! I hope you enjoyed this Chapter, I know that it was a bit wordy and not as action-packed as the other chapters, but I thought it was a perfect time to explain a few things. I hope you are all well! Lots of love! Rhi <3
