Project Mercy

Chapter 3

Panic. My heart raced and my eyes widened as I slammed my glass on the bar causing it to smash into various pieces, cutting me in the process, but I didn't care my only concern was getting in that room. I raced to the door, my heels clicked on the tiled floor. I push the door open, my grey spirals now cavorting around my fingers, I frown as I look around the room. The room was filled with cages that contained many people, men, women and children all of which have the same sort of golden bracelets clamped on their wrists. I crouch behind a cage just outside what looks to be an auctioning room. I spot Hans and Lady kneeling on the floor with two armed men holding guns at their heads, a girl walks towards the painting that was seen before dragging a knife along the side revealing a case of black vials of liquid hiding in it. They look all too familiar.

"Boo" A deep voice whispers, I spin around to see Graycen smirking at me. I frown, staring at him, confused.

" I think we should wrap this up here Hailey" He shouts grabbing onto my arm. I quickly twist his arm around, pushing him down sending him to the floor with a thud. Graycen groans in pain as I twist his arm vigorously, earning a click, dislocating his shoulder. I look at his belt to see a handgun, I pull it from its holster seeing that the safety clip is off.

A few more men bust through another door in front, they shoot wildly at me as I take cover behind one of the cages.

They hastily move closer as the shooting stops, I quickly turn around the corner with my gun at the ready. I aim for their knee caps causing them to drop to the floor in pain, discarding their guns in the process as they hold their legs in agony.

I stand directing my gun at the blonde girl who'd also drawn her gun, pointing it at me. She shakily holds the gun with the safety clip still on, I shoot her foot as she pulls the trigger but finds that nothing happens. The girl holds onto the auction table in pain as she squeezes her eyes shut.

"It's about time" Hans scoffs as he helps Lady on her feet.

Suddenly the same ache from before stops me in my tracks, I slowly turn around to find Graycen stood holding his arm.

" You know me, don't you?"

I stare blankly at him showing no emotion.

"You saved me that day. Why?"

"Graycen what are you doing! You'll get us all killed" The girl from before shouts from behind her voice wobbly and fearful. Graycen ignores her, staring into my eyes. This face was as fixed as mine, with no emotion and no movement.

Again the ache comes back as I feel him infiltrate my head. I hate that he could just look into my head without batting an eye.

My spirals flicker as I take a threatening step towards him, ' Stop-' his mouth doesn't move when I hear his voice. My vision becomes misty as a blurred face comes into view.

" -Why are you doing this?" His voice is rough and angry.

The face becomes clearer.

" The name's Graycen" His voice echoes.

"Graycen, stop it" I whisper looking at him, his eyebrows crease as I stare at him intently.

Obviously, when he went into my head he looked in the wrong places.

The sound of a gun goes off as I watch Graycen fall on the floor with blood spewing out of his chest.

"Mercy, get us out of here now" He shouts at me as that girl Hailey rushes to Graycen with a fearful look. 'Stay, ' Graycen begs in my head. I know I couldn't, I've been acting on my selfish actions for too long, I can't walk away now. I shake my head at him, releasing a pulse of energy keeping everyone down. This gives me enough time to grab Hans by his shirt, pulling him past Graycen who could barely keep his eyes open.

" What about the serum?!" Lady shouts as she follows like a lost puppy behind us.

"Mercy," Hans says in a low tone, I sigh turning around grabbing the case of vials with the same spirals that still hold the men down onto the floor. I throw the case into Lady's arms.

The second we leave the room I let go of everyone.
