Michael’s sharp gaze bore into Elena as if he wanted to devour her alive. Without another word, he turned and walked away.
Vivian's lips curled into a graceful, elegant smile.
Elena withdrew her gaze, completely indifferent, and continued chatting with her senior, Ethan, with a smile.
After their conversation, Elena got into a taxi.
As she absentmindedly reached for her necklace, her expression suddenly changed.
Where’s my necklace?!
"Driver! Turn around—take me to Yulin Villa."
She must have forgotten it last time in her hurry!
An hour later, Elena entered the villa.
She had just stepped into the bedroom when she saw Michael standing in front of her vanity, staring absentmindedly at a watch in his hand.
A flicker of surprise flashed in her eyes.
In three years of marriage, he never once stepped into this bedroom. And now he’s looking at the watch I gave him?
He had hated that watch at first—tossed it straight to the ground. She had painstakingly pieced it back together with glue. A defective product, but one she couldn't bear to throw away.
Michael seemed to sense her gaze. Turning his head, he met her indifferent eyes. His expression instantly darkened.
Sneering, he tossed the watch carelessly onto the vanity. "Why do you keep this broken thing here? Do you think I’m a junk collector?"
Elena raised an eyebrow. "Then throw it away."
Michael’s pupils shrank sharply.
She used to care so much about this watch. And now she can discard it so easily?
Of course.
She’s changed.
Otherwise, why would she be laughing and chatting with another man so freely?
The veins on his forehead bulged as he gritted out, "Elena Lin! You agreed to the divorce so readily—is it because you’ve already found someone else?"
Elena smirked. "If you want to think that, go ahead."
Without another glance at him, she walked straight to the vanity, opened a drawer, and took out a necklace box.
The two of them stood close, but she didn’t spare him a single look before turning to leave.
Michael’s face turned pale. He reached out and grabbed her wrist.
"You think you can just come and go as you please?"
Elena frowned, trying to pull free. "What do you want now?"
This man was being completely unreasonable! Had he always been this temperamental?
Seeing her struggle, Michael tightened his grip, his voice cold. "Grandma wants to see you. You’re coming to the old house with me tonight."
Elena frowned, looking at him like he had lost his mind. "Mr. Bowen, did you take the wrong medicine today? If you need to bring someone, shouldn’t it be my cousin?"
Her sharp words made Michael’s face darken even more. "I said, Grandma wants to see you. Do you really think I’d bring you if I had a choice?"
Elena scoffed. "Funny. In the past, whenever Grandma wanted to see me, you always found an excuse to stop me. What’s changed?"
Michael let out a mocking laugh. "Elena Lin, have you already forgotten how much Grandma cared for you? What, now that we’re divorced, you think you can just turn your back on her?"
Elena’s lips pressed into a thin line.
Among the Bowens, only Grandma had been truly kind to her. She had always taken care of her, stood up for her, and made up for Michael’s neglect in every possible way.
There were moments when Elena even felt like she was Grandma’s real granddaughter.
She could never bear to reject her.
Seeing her hesitation, Michael finally felt a sliver of satisfaction. His voice dripped with sarcasm. "You used to care about Grandma so much, and now you’re suddenly indifferent? Elena, why didn’t I realize before that you’re so heartless? Kicking me aside now that I’m ‘useless’ to you?"
"I’m not that kind of person!" Elena glared at him.
Michael let out a cold sneer. "Then let’s go."
