Chapter 2:

Nyra: The next day, as early as five o clock, Kaden is standing beside my bed, blaring an alarm in my ears. “Rise and shine, princess. We have a long day ahead of us, you are supposed to leave for the academy in like five hours, we have to get you all prepped up.” As much as I don’t like getting up early, Kaden and I have to do everything in our power to get this ready. We only have two doughnuts and a cup of coffee to start the day. Later on, we are in my room, I am seated on a chair, facing the mirror. Kaden is standing in front of me, with a pair of scissors. I stare at the mirror, admiring my shoulder length shiny raven hair, I’m sure going to miss it. “Do it,” I breathe in heavily and Kaden grins. He snips off my hair, strands falling to the floor, by the time he’s done, my hair reaches the side of my ears, exactly like Kaden’s. “How do I look?” “Like me with better cheekbones,” he mutters. “Annoying.” We then spend hours practising my walk, my voice, my resting annoyed face. I copy his lazy slouch, his overconfident swagger. Kaden coaches me like a maniac, pacing like a wolf with caffeine. Two hours later, we’re done; I am exhausted, sore, and weirdly exhilarated. “You sure we’re going to pull this off?” I ask, tugging at the hoodie Kaden lent me, he’s packed half of his clothes for me, every single hoodie, oversized t-shirts and well, almost every accessory he owns. “Of course, you practically look like me now, everyone’s going to believe. We even have the same tattoo on our wrist.” Kaden grins, handing me his ID card, I stare at the picture of my brother, who looks like me now. Guess I am Kaden Ashford for the next six months now. “Kaden!” We hear our mother’s voice resounding from the hallway, “the car is ready, hurry up. You can’t be ready on your first day.” I stare at Kaden, huffing a breath. “Okay, so I will meet you in the car, from there, I’ll head to the airport. Alright bye, I’m taking the back door.” Kaden says and I nod my head, wheeling my luggage, I see my mother in the hallway. “Kaden?” She asks, “Are you okay? You seem a little off.” She says, the omegas help me wheel my luggage out of the pack-house. “Also, I’m sorry that your dad couldn’t wait to see you off. He had an emergency meeting to run off to, but I’m sure he is going to give you a call when you get there.” Of course, he’s going to miss bidding his only son goodbye. We come out of the pack-house and I stare at the looming green trees. “Have you seen Nyra? I have been meaning to talk to her ever since last night; I believe your father was just being hard on her again. You know how he is.” Of course I do. “I haven’t seen her, but I am sure she’s busy.” I step closer to embrace my mother. “I’ll miss you, mom.” For a second, I almost let my voice get emotional but I don’t. I smile gently at the Omegas and tighten my hand around the handle of my travelling bag, my backpack strapped on my back. I get in the car and from the window, my mother and the Omegas are waving, their smiles bright as their make-up. “Ready?” Kaden asks, and gestures to the driver to start driving. I release a breath I didn’t know I was holding. The engine roars to life and we move out of the gates, we drive into the city and just seeing how busy people are makes me sigh. Last week, I overheard my father talking about how the pack’s stocks were drastically dropping; he won’t even let me contribute to the financial advice. Very soon, we were heading into the forest. Soon the grand academy is coming into view, a massive iron gate guards the entrance, the crest of the academy-a stylized wolf’s head-is etched into the stone above the gate. “Damn it, this place is like to die for.” Kaden widens his eyes, staring out the window as the gates automatically slide open and our car drives in. I can see the courtyards and huge towers, all interconnected by brides, flags bearing the academy colours- bright red with black stripes flutters in the breeze, behind us, different cars are already wheeling behind us. I take a deep breath, feeling the rising doom deep in my stomach. “You can do this, alright?” Kaden assures me, “go right in there and show them who’s boss, your uniform is already inside your bag, wait one second.” He brings out his perfume bottle and sprays it all over me. “What was that for?” I ask. “We can’t have you smelling like rose petals and sugar cookies, my perfume is pine and leather.” He throws the perfume bottle at me and opens the door. “Alright, soldier. Go show them. You have your phone right? If there’s any problem, don’t hesitate to message me.” He opens the car door and I breathe in, grabbing my travelling bag and my duffel bag. Coming out of the car, I stare at the large academy in the front of me. Let the adventure begin.
