Adrian had once told her years ago, "I will love you forever and ever, and take care of you forever and ever. You are the most important person in my life."
When had it started to change? Probably around the time Violet caught him in their marital home, on their bed, rolling in the sheets with Ivy. Adrian rubbed his temples, irritation and regret clouding his expression, but the first thing he did was drape a blanket over Ivy. "Violet, I was drunk. It was an accident. Nobody's perfect. Please forgive me," he said.
Later, Adrian explained, "The Jensen and Blake families are old friends. Ivy's a good person. Very capable. She's been a huge help at the company."
He pinched her cheek gently. "Don't overthink it. You are the most important person in my heart. Nobody can threaten your position as Mrs. Blake."
Violet's mind went blank. Before she could respond, her phone rang. It was Rosie's kindergarten teacher. Rosie had collapsed, and the hospital had diagnosed leukemia. The entire Blake family was thrown into chaos. Everyone got tested for a bone marrow match, and only Adrian was compatible.
No matter how much Violet couldn't stomach what he had done, she had to follow his instructions and forgive him. But afterward, Adrian didn't restrain himself at all. He spent more and more time with Ivy and grew increasingly admiring of her. He even allowed Ivy to attend events as Mrs. Blake.
Therefore, Violet asked for a divorce. Adrian didn't believe her. When she fell silent, he said coldly, "Calm down. Don't say things just to hurt me," then turned and got into his car.
Violet walked back along the road alone, all the way to the cake shop to pick up her order, then headed to the hospital. Adrian was busy soothing Ivy and probably forgot that today was Rosie's birthday. It was fine. As long as she didn't forget.
Walking into the hospital room, Violet froze. Ivy, in a red dress, had both hands gripping Rosie's feet and was swinging her up and down. Rosie screamed at the top of her lungs, desperately trying to fight back, but weeks of illness had drained her strength. She could only wail, "Mommy, Mommy, help. It hurts so much…"
Fury surged through Violet so fast her hands shook. She yanked Rosie back into her arms, then spun around and slapped Ivy hard across the face.
Ivy staggered sideways from the impact. Instead of fighting back, her eyes immediately filled with tears as she looked toward the doorway.
"Addie…"
Violet froze and turned around.
Adrian stood in the doorway, his expression so cold it sucked the warmth out of the room.
