Zane’s POV:
It was finally time for lunch. As soon as the lecture was over, I got out of my seat and was out the door. I was excited about spending some time alone with my Little Star. As soon as I saw her that first day, she had captivated my mind. With her long curly hair that was so big it looked like it wanted to swallow her small curvy body whole. Her big eyes shimmered like little stars, innocent and lost. Hence, the nickname I gave her.
I thought she was just a human at first. But then her eyes met mine and I sensed something else. I wasn’t exactly sure what though. Was she a hybrid like me? She couldn’t be a vampire with her warm blushing cheeks. I wasn’t even sure if she knew it herself. But I intended to find out.
I had already had my fill of blood for the day so I wouldn’t need to bring my thermos with me. Since I am a hybrid I can blend in easier, being able to eat normal human food as well.
I heard my phone go off so I stopped to open the screen. “Hey I’m in the dining hall whenever you’re ready to meet up! I invited some other friends along too, hope you don’t mind!” Ugh I internally groaned. I thought I had her all to myself. Well, let's go see who these “friends” are. I just hoped that cocky Warlock wasn’t one of them.
I go to the dining hall and quickly grabbed my food. I was looking for her until I saw her waving me over. I see Liza is sitting next to her well that’s not so bad. But who’s the guy? I’m halfway to the table when I smell him. Omg she invited a mutt along. She certainly does have an interesting choice in “friends’. “Hi Zane, I invited some other friends along to join us, hope you don’t mind.” I do my best at giving her a smile. “No not all Little Star.” She gave me a warm smile. Her hair was looking extra shiny and bouncy today, I’ll have to play with it later.
“Zane, you already know Liza, this is Darren.” She said, gesturing to the mutt sitting next me. I turned and gave him a tight smile that definitely did not reach my eyes. “Nice to meet you Darren, how do you know my Little Star?” I made sure to add that my in there. I wasn’t inclined to sharing her, especially not with a mutt. He simply looked at me face impassive but with a slight challenge in his eyes. “We’re classmates.”
Liza cleared her throat. “Enough with the testosterone battle you guys. Let’s be civil.” I laughed and gave her a smirk. “Awe come on Liza we’re just saying hello to each other.” She shook her head. “Uh huh sure.” Celeste was starting to look uncomfortable so I gave her a smile to assure her everything was fine, even if she had invited a mutt along. Liza chimed in breaking the silence. “So, are you guys going to the party this weekend?”
Celeste perked up and looked over at Liza, she is so cute when she smiles. “There’s a party!?” I laughed. “Well, of course there is Little Star a different Frat or dorm throws a party just about every weekend.” She blushed and looked down. “Oh, right I suppose they would. So is everyone going then?” Liza playful shoved her. “Only everyone! So you have to be there. Wanna meet up in my dorm to get ready together?”
“Sure, that sounds like a good time.” I chimed in giving them a smirk. Liza scoffed. “Girls only creep.” I faked being wounded. Celeste laughed. “Yeah sounds fun! Will you be going to Darren?” Ugh why does she care if that mutt is going to be there? He gave a small smile and a sharp nod yes. This guy doesn’t say much. But something tells me I’ll still need to keep an eye on him.
The rest of lunch went by quickly. Liza was gushing about makeovers and picking out each other’s outfits. So I tuned her out and kept an eye on Darren. He was watching Celeste like a hawk. He looked like he was trying to figure her out same as me. He didn’t say much so luckily, I could ignore him for the most part.
Everyone had finished their food so we were all saying our goodbyes. Except for me and my Little Star we had our next class together so I could ger her alone for a little bit after all. After the other two had finally left I turned to her and smiled. “Let’s walk to class.” She looked up at me with those big eyes and gave me a nod.
Darren’s POV:
“Well that went better than expected, looks like she’s starting to warm up to us.” I laughed. “You mean me, she doesn’t even know about you.” “Not yet anyway.” I was surprised at that. “Not yet.”? So you intend to show yourself to her?” I have a feeling if he could look at me right now he’d be looking at me like I was an i***t. “Well duh, once we figure out whatever she is anyway.” I scoffed at him. “And what if whatever she is isn’t friendly?” “She’s friendly I can feel it.”
Well he was certainly more confident than me, but he was usually right so I trusted him. I had to. My business class had just ended when I got a text from her. “Hey, I’m in the dining hall whenever you wanna meet up!” Well, she didn’t cancel on me so I’ll take that as a good sign.
I made my way to the dining hall and grabbed my food at the café. I looked around and saw her waving me over. I stopped in my tracks. Is she really hanging out with another bloodsucker? This girl really has got to choose better friends. She smiled and looked up at me. “Hi Darren, this is my friend Liza.” I gave her a polite smile. “Nice to meet you.” She looked over at me and gave me a smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes. “Pleasure.” “Damn bloodsuckers.”
Just when I thought that was everyone Celeste started waving someone else over. I turned to look and see who it was. “By the moon goddess not another one.” It was that other bloodsucker I saw her with that first day. Great. She smiled up at him and said. “Hi Zane, I invited some other friends along to join us, hope you don’t mind.” So it was him that she was originally supposed to meet up with then. He gave her a smile and sat down next to me. “No, not at all little Star.”
“Little Star??” She introduced us and he called her his “Little Star”. “Ha this fucker is trying to claim her already is he?” We sat in awkward silence for awhile until the other bloodsucker brought up going to a party this weekend. Zane was being a creep about getting ready with the girls, when Celeste turned to me and asked me if I’d be there. I hesitated, having not planned on going. “Say yes you i***t. You can’t leave her alone with them!” Alright, alright! I nodded my head yes and gave her a small smile.
The girls kept talking about the party and makeovers, so I tuned them out for the most part. I kept feeling Zane’s eyes on me, but I tried my best to ignore him. This fucker wasn’t about to intimidate me, an Alpha. We all finished our food and I reluctantly said goodbye and watched her walk away with that bloodsucker.
