“About Time”

I woke up with eyes that felt like lead as a result of last night's horror, I couldn't believe Ben had broken up with me, his breakup words echoed in my mind “it’s not you, it’s me”, I couldn't believe it.

I did everything possible to keep this one, I mean I split bills on dates, did his laundries, I cooked his favourite meals. What do these men want!. Again, i am starting to feel I am unlucky with men, they always leave, with the same tired excuse, at least Ben lasted a month and two days, a record.

I tossed my phone on my bed behind me, the screen still glowing with his breakup text, I dragged my feets down to my bathroom to wash my face, as I splash my face with tap water, I stared at my reflection in the mirror in front of me , a spark of defiance ignited within me.

I was tired of being a victim at this point, tired of feeling miserable after every breakups, I mean I am beautiful, intelligent, hardworking and fun to be with “My friends can testify to this” it was time I take control of my dating life. I screamed “yea baby Tables have turned”.

I laughed as I walked back to my room, I throw myself in my bed, I would play the game, but this time i will be the one calling the shots. No more investing my emotions and time, I’d play them at their own game.

“It’s time to play baby” I whispered , a fierce glint in my eyes.

I jumped out of bed to my closet , picking out my most attractive clothes and a place them in front of my body to see how they’d look on me in the mirror , I felt empowered and better than i had in a long time.

And with that my transformation began, I went to the salon that evening and got my hair curled differently, called my friend Emily and booked spa appointment with her.

I stepped into Emilies beautiful spa, welcomed with the blooming fragrance of skin care products, Emily was already waiting for me. My heels clicked on the floor as I walked towards her receptionist table.

“Hi Ella, I have an appointment with Emily, did she tell you.” Ella, Emily’s friendly receptionist, greeted me with her usual smile.

“Yes ma’am, she is waiting for you in the spa room, enjoy your session” she replied me smiling as usual.

I walked in with my head high, feeling like a woman about to be transformed

“Hey girl!” Emily exclaimed, as I kissed her cheek. “I was beginning to think you changed your mind“

“No way girl, I got caught up with traffic, you know how it is getting around town this days” I have missed you girl!” I smiled taking my seat on the spa chair “girl I need you to do your magic on me, I need to feel like a new woman”

Emily raises her eyebrow. “I see, are you going out on a Date with Ben tonight?, what’s the occasion my friend?” She smiled

I rolled my eyes “let’s not discuss Ben”

“Why?, you couldn’t stop talking about how he makes you feel like you are in cloud nine few days ago, what happens” Emily replied with her hands on her waist

“Baby girl I don’t want to talk about my previous relationships,now I am going to be a transformed woman and I am turning the tables, this men should watch out for my coming” I grinned mischievously

“This sounds like you becoming the men you so much dread,isn’t this what you hate about them?, how will that make you feel any better “ Emily rolled her eyes good-naturedly

“I am here for a spa session not lectures Emily” I relexed my back on the soft spa chair as I drop my bag on the side stool “ it’s my world girl, I play by my rules.”

“You are impossible, you know that” Emily shakes her head as she prepares for work.

With my transformation completed, I was ready to put my plans to action, little did I know the universe had its own plans for me.
