5Three Reachers watched from the hill overlooking the church. The helicopter was a complication. They had been expecting Charlie and his companions, but not the other visitors. As the helicopter lifted, carrying the priest they had already sentenced to death, their leader contemplated bringing it down. But even if they had that power between them, and he wasn't sure they did, none of them would be able to harm the Reacher inside.
Just like none of them would be able to harm the Reacher waiting for them in the church.
But not being able to harm him was very different from not being able to bring him harm.
Charlie used to be one of them, a long, long time ago. But he wasn't anymore. He was only like them and, although none of them could kill him, it didn't stop them wanting him dead.
