Hazel walked into the living room, expecting to see her parents sitting on the couch. But instead, she saw a stranger standing by the window. The woman was tall and slender, with long silver hair and piercing green eyes.
"Who's this?" Hazel asked, feeling a little confused.
Her mom smiled. "Hazel, this is your great-aunt, Victoria. She's your father's aunt."
Hazel's eyes widened in surprise. She had never heard of a great-aunt Victoria before.
"Nice to meet you," Victoria said, extending her hand. Hazel shook it, feeling a little awkward.
"Nice to meet you too," she replied.
Victoria smiled. "I've heard so much about you, Hazel. You're even more beautiful than I expected."
Hazel blushed, feeling a little self-conscious. She didn't know what to make of this stranger, who seemed to know so much about her.
Her dad cleared his throat. "Victoria is going to be staying with us for a while. She's going to be helping us with some... family business."
Hazel's eyes narrowed. What kind of family business?
But before she could ask any questions, Victoria spoke up.
"I'm so glad to be here, James. I've missed you and your family."
Hazel's mom smiled. "We've missed you too, Victoria. It's been too long."
As they chatted, Hazel couldn't help but feel a little suspicious. Who was this great-aunt Victoria, really? And what was she doing here?
Later that day, Hazel met up with her best friend, Rachael at the coffee shop. Rachael brought her stepsister Lauren along, who was a petite blonde with a big personality and a charming smile.
"Hey, girl! What's up?" Lauren asked, as they sat down at their usual table.
Hazel grinned mischievously. "You won't believe what happened to me yesterday."
Lauren's and Rachel's eyes sparkled with curiosity. "Try telling us."
Hazel leaned in, lowering her voice. "I met this guy, and we had an amazing time together. He's so cute!"
Lauren squealed. "That's amazing! Tell me more."
Hazel smiled, feeling a little giddy. "We talked for hours, and I felt like I'd known him my whole life. And then... he asked me out on a second date."
Lauren's eyes widened. "That's so exciting! What did you say?"
Hazel grinned. "I said yes, of course."
Rachael laughed. "I'm so happy for you, Hazel. You deserve it."
As they chatted, Hazel couldn't help but feel grateful for her best friend. Rachael was always there for her, no matter what.
But as they finished their coffee and headed out of the shop, Hazel couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. She had a feeling that her life was about to change in ways she couldn't even imagine.
And then, just as they were walking out of the shop, Hazel saw a strange figure lurking in the shadows. The figure was tall and menacing, with piercing eyes that seemed to bore into Hazel's soul.
Hazel's heart skipped a beat. Who was this person? And what did they want?
"Guys, I think we should get out of here," Hazel said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Rachael and Lauren exchanged a nervous glance. "What's wrong?" Rachael asked.
Hazel nodded towards the figure. "That person. I don't like the look of them."
Lauren's eyes widened. "Oh my god, that is creepy."
The three girls quickly hurried away from the shop, not stopping until they were safely inside Rachael's car.
As they drove away, Hazel couldn't shake the feeling that she was being watched. She glanced in the rearview mirror, but saw nothing.
Still, the feeling persisted.
What was going on? And who was behind it?
