CHAPTER SEVEN:A MYSTERIOUS WARNING

412 Words
Hazel couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. She had been feeling like she was being watched all day, and the encounter with the strange figure at the coffee shop had only added to her unease. As she walked home from Rachael's house, Hazel noticed a piece of paper on the ground. She picked it up, expecting it to be a flyer or a receipt. But instead, it was a note, written in messy handwriting. "Be careful, Hazel," the note read. "They're watching you." Hazel's heart skipped a beat. Who was watching her? And why? She looked around, but saw no one suspicious. The street was empty, except for a few cars driving by. Hazel quickly walked the rest of the way home, her senses on high alert. She couldn't shake the feeling that she was in danger. As she walked in the door, Hazel's mom greeted her with a concerned expression. "Hazel, I've been trying to reach you all day," she said. "I have some news to share with you." Hazel's heart sank. What now? "What is it, Mom?" she asked, trying to prepare herself for the worst. Her mom hesitated, then spoke. "It's about your dad. He's been acting strange lately." Hazel's eyes narrowed. Strange? What did that mean? "What do you mean by strange?" Hazel asked, her curiosity piqued. Her mom sighed. "I don't know, exactly. He's just been acting... differently. He's been getting mysterious phone calls and sneaking around the house at night." Hazel's eyes widened. Mysterious phone calls? Sneaking around the house at night? This sounded serious. "Do you think he's in trouble?" Hazel asked, her concern growing. Her mom nodded. "I do, Hazel. And I think we need to find out what's going on." Hazel nodded, determination rising up within her. She was going to get to the bottom of this, no matter what it took. Just then, Hazel's dad walked into the room, a look of guilt on his face. "Hey, kiddo," he said, trying to sound casual. "What's going on?" Hazel's eyes narrowed. What was her dad hiding? "Mom says you've been acting strange," Hazel said, her voice firm. Her dad's expression changed, and for a moment, Hazel saw a flash of fear in his eyes. "I... I don't know what you're talking about," he said, trying to laugh it off. But Hazel wasn't buying it. She knew her dad was hiding something, and she was determined to find out what it was.
