Hazel's heart skipped a beat as she heard Jordan's voice on the phone. "Hey, Hazel. What's up?" he asked, his tone casual and friendly. "Not much," Hazel replied, trying to sound nonchalant despite the butterflies in her stomach. "Just got home from school." "Oh, cool," Jordan said. "I was thinking, maybe we could grab coffee together sometime?" Hazel's heart skipped another beat. She had been hoping he would ask her out, and now that he had, she couldn't wait to see him again. "That sounds great," she said, trying to sound calm. "When were you thinking?" "How about tomorrow afternoon?" Jordan asked. "I have a break in my schedule, and I'd love to see you." Hazel nodded, even though he couldn't see her. "Tomorrow sounds perfect." They made plans to meet at a coffee shop in the afternoon, and Hazel spent the rest of the day counting down the minutes until their date. When she was preparing to go to school, Hazel's mom was waiting for her in the kitchen. "Hey, sweetie. How was your night?" she asked. Hazel dropped her backpack on the floor and slid onto a stool at the counter. "It was good," she said. "we have a math test." Her mom smiled. "That's great, Hazel. I'm so sure you will have an A." As they chatted, Hazel's mind began to wander. She couldn't stop thinking about Jordan and their upcoming coffee date. "Hazel, are you listening to me?" her mom asked, laughing. Hazel snapped back to attention. "Sorry, Mom. What were you saying?" Her mom smiled. "I was asking you if you wanted to go shopping with me this weekend. We could get you some new clothes for the fall." Hazel nodded, still distracted. "Yeah, that sounds great, Mom." As her mom continued to talk, Hazel's mind drifted back to Jordan. She couldn't wait to see him again and get to know him better. And she couldn't wait to get to school and tell her best friend. As Hazel sat in class, she couldn't help but think about Jordan and their encounter at the music festival. She had been dying to tell her best friend, Rachel, all about it. As soon as the lunch bell rang, Hazel grabbed her bag and met Rachel in the cafeteria. "Oh my gosh, Rach, I have the most amazing story to tell you," Hazel said, barely containing her excitement. Rachel's eyes lit up with interest. "What is it? Tell me everything!" Hazel took a deep breath and launched into the story of how she met Jordan at the music festival. She told Rachel about how they talked and laughed together, and how Jordan had asked her out for coffee. Rachel's eyes grew wider and wider as Hazel spoke. "Wow, that sounds incredible!" Rachel exclaimed. "I'm so jealous! What's he like?" Hazel sighed dreamily. "He's amazing, Rach. He's so charming and funny, and he's got this adorable smile... I just can't stop thinking about him!" Rachel grinned mischievously. "I think you might be in trouble, Hazel. You're already falling for him, aren't you?" Hazel blushed, feeling a little self-conscious. "Maybe a little," she admitted. "But I don't care. I'm just going to enjoy the ride and see where things go." Rachel nodded enthusiastically. "That's the spirit, Hazel! I'm so excited for you. You deserve all the happiness in the world." As they finished their lunch and headed back to class, Hazel couldn't help but feel grateful for her best friend. Rachel always knew how to make her feel better, and Hazel knew that she could always count on Rachel to be there for her. Little did Hazel know, her life was about to get interesting
