CHAPTER TWO

1074 Words
Inside a little room was Florence looking at a picture which held the faces of a man and a woman. “Mom, Dad, I'm getting married today. I'm so happy I'm finally getting married to my long-time crush Andrew, the CEO of Anderson's Cooperation Limited,” she said, smiling and squirming, smiling into the face with her hands on her face daydreaming. Though I saw him just once, we didn't have a conversation. I heard he's cold and distant, but he will treat me well right away because I'm his wife. She said, looking towards the wall clock. “Mom and Dad, it's 3:am, and I'm still awake. I can't sleep. I keep thinking of how my life will be after marriage,” she said, putting a finger under her jaw. “Though he's quite older than me, I'm 18, while he's 28, but I'm sure everything will go well because age is just a number.” “I wish both of you were here. It would have been amazing, but I know your blessings are with me,” she said, her eyes watering. Oh, I'm crying. Today is my wedding, and I'm crying. I'm supposed to be happy not crying today,” she said, dabbing her eyes. I think I'll go to sleep now so I won't feel sleepy tomorrow. Goodnight Mom, goodnight Dad. Florence went to bed with a big smile on her face thinking about tomorrow. Little did she know that from that moment her life would be a living hell which had no gates out. Florence was woken by the ringtone of her phone. She looked at the caller ID and saw it was her grandfather-in-law. She picked it. “Good morning grandpa,” she said with a big smile on her face. “Good morning Flora, how are you doing? Hope you're getting ready,” he said lightly. “Yes grandpa, I'm just waking up from sleep,” she said, yawning. You have to get ready. This is approximately 6:30, so you'd have to get ready and be here before 7:45, he said. Okay grandpa Bye for now, Flora, he said, ending the call. Clara immediately took her bath. This was not a wedding done in the church. They just had to sign some documents and take some pictures. Grandpa told her it would be a quiet wedding. She didn't see the need to apply makeup. She was naturally beautiful, and she put on the long gown which was delivered to her two days ago by her grandfather. She packed her hair into a ponytail. She decided to wear the necklace she customized last year, whose pendant was Flodrew. That was the couple's name she made for her and Andrew. She did a final body check on herself and was convinced she looked good. She went out and saw the cab sent by grandpa. She quickly entered. “Hi Uncle, Good morning,” she said, smiling brightly. “Hi Florence, you look so beautiful,” he said. “Thanks Uncle,” she said. The car fell into a comfortable silence when they got to the civil bureau. She got down from the car and entered the bureau. She took out her phone from her bag to call her grandpa. “Flora looks this way,” she turned to her right and saw her grandpa. They entered the office. Andrew was not yet there. It was 7:46. Grandpa where's Andrew? Florence asked. The man frowned suddenly. “I'll be back in a jiffy,” he left, leaving only Florence and the lawyer inside the office. Olivia looked at the wall clock and saw it was 7:55. “Maybe he has something he's doing,” she said, consoling herself so she wouldn't panic. “Do you really know Mr Anderson?" Andrew the lawyer asked, looking pitifully at her. “Um, I've known him since childhood,” she said with an awkward smile on her face. She didn't really lie. She thought to herself she had known Andrew since childhood but only met him once, but they didn't talk. She only heard about him from his grandpa. She rejoiced anytime grandpa said he won a contract. She wished he could make out time to come and see her. Whenever she asked Grandpa, he would always say he was busy. Grandpa entered the room with a huge frown. “He will be here shortly,” he said while Florence nodded. Everyone sat quietly waiting for Andrew. When it was 8:15 am, Andrew arrived together with Aunty Jennifer. “Can we start now?” he asked, checking his wristwatch without even acknowledging Florence. “Hi Andrew,” Florence said timidly, smiling. Andrew looked up at her with a big frown. “Can we start?” he said again, this time impatiently. They signed some documents after signing the documents, they took pictures. Andrew didn't smile throughout the picture. Florence thought maybe he wasn't in a good mood, but why wasn't he in a good mood at their wedding? When it was time to go, grandpa said, “Flora, you can go with Andrew to his house. I'll send the driver to get your things.” “Okay grandpa,” Florence wondered why he hadn't said anything to her. She followed him to his car. When they got there, he sat in the driver's seat while she sat beside him. He started driving without sparing her a glance. The car was filled with tension. She decided to break the silence. “Uhm, is there something wrong?” she said, touching him on his lap. He glared at her hands. She quickly removed it. “Sorry” she said awkwardly The car came to a stop. “Get out,” he said. His eyes on the road “Mmmhhh,” she said, not sure if she had heard what he said. “I said get out,” he snapped. “I don't know anywhere around here,” she said. Andrew grabbed her wrist and he tightened his hold. “I hate repeating myself when I say something. You do it immediately. I'll let you go today,” Florence looked at him, scared now. She winced in pain. He opened his car with the other hand and threw her out. She fell and had a little scratch on her knees. He drove off leaving Florence behind and began thinking of why he acted like this towards her.
