Woman’s Body Discovered Near Melanes
The body of a young woman has been found by police in a shallow grave near Melanes. It is the third body to have been discovered in suspicious circumstances on Naxos this month.
The woman, who is said to have been in her early twenties at the time of her death, was found only days after a man’s body was discovered by tourists in the same location last Friday. Both bodies were concealed inside a stone shepherd’s hut in the hills near the famous ‘Kouros of Melanes’.
A police spokesman said: ‘The female skeleton, which has been buried for as long as 20 years, might never have been discovered if not for forensic examination of the scene in connection with the other victim to be found in this location.’
