31 Alex declined lunch, saying he was tired and thought he might try to get a rest. He looked as if everything had caught up with him. He had an appointment with the police in the late afternoon, and Kate was coming back on a police launch that evening. When he had left, Day and Helen ate a lunch of left-overs. They didn’t feel much like talking.
