The rain that had been turning to snow when we"d been outside was a full-blown blizzard now. Blasts of wind whistled and howled around the stone walls of the tower around us. I could almost see those walls shifting in that wind. I remembered how narrow the strip of rock had been that had extended beyond the tower walls. How very long the drop was to the bottom of the chasm all around us. I was still sitting on the edge of Thorbjorn"s bed. I had his hand in mine. I could feel his pulse, but only when I searched for it. It was weak and slow, and his flesh was so very cold. And yet the fire in the center of the room blazed so warmly I was sweating.
