Chapter 13“I know this breaks our code,” Rory said the moment he sat down at Mikayla’s booth in the restaurant. She had arrived ahead of him, an easy feat considering his office tour with Taggart turned high-school make out session. After changing, and then turning in some forms at the English Department admin office, he’d been alerted on his phone to a series of missed called—and several emails marked as urgent. He’d lost another half hour staring at all of them, before he realized he’d need to book it to the hole-in-the-wall Italian restaurant where Mikayla wanted to meet, since he’d picked their first location.
Since his mind was still in the clouds from his emails, it meant he was about to break the golden rule of hanging out with Mikayla, especially Mikayla in person: no shop talk. T
