Chapter 20Taggart pulled his coat collar up as the first drop of rain hit his head. It was summer rain, so it didn’t leave him with a chill; it also wasn’t heavy enough for him to turn back. He crossed the street with a group of tourists in a downtown section of Chicago. Rory was not with him; he was still in bed, recovering from his previous day of gruelling interviews, shop talking, and dinner with the heads of the university. Even though Taggart was pretty sure Rory was going to stay down for the count, Taggart had left a note on the hotel desk that he was going out to get a souvenir for Joseph. Really, Taggart was wandering through the Gangsters and Ghost Tour Route by himself. He wanted to be sure that there were no surprises. He’d Googled the route and found someone’s step-counting
