Chapter 21
Br’er had slept fitfully. He woke feeling anxious. He’d hoped Ray would’ve called after the Cunningham family’s Christmas gathering. He hadn’t. Br’er wanted to know how it had gone, what the reaction was to Adrienne’s not being there had been, and…if Ray had come any closer to feeling he could come out to them. The latter was really the most important issue for Br’er. Ray’s hesitance to move on this caused Br’er some uneasiness. If Ray never did, it was okay with him. But Br’er sometimes wondered if it would be okay with Ray. Ray loved him. Would that be their undoing? Ray had a strong sense of fairness. Would Ray come to feel his love for Br’er was unfair—holding Br’er back from finding a love that would be more open, more normal?
