Ray looked out the window as their plane raced down the runway at LaGuardia, picking up speed for takeoff. He felt Br’er reach over and take his hand. Ray turned and looked at Br’er. He smiled. Ray laid his other hand on top of their joined ones. He could feel the silver bracelets beneath his palm. They’d spent the night in each other’s arms, Ray holding Br’er tightly against him.
