Isabella POV
"This is exactly what I was doing, sir," Alpha Zachary said, his voice low with shame etched on his face as the alpha shot him a glare.
Beads of sweat stretched on Alpha Zachary's face; his arms trembled under Alpha Marcus' intimidating presence.
“I was hiding her to protect her from her family's enemies," he blurted out, his voice hoarse, and Alpha Marcus scoffed.
He clenched his jaw as his eyes stared at the bruises that have marred my fair skin. A large pulse of anger shot through his veins.
"Hiding her from her family's enemies." Alpha Marcus laughed at his face; his voice grew deeper with each word.
He had been keeping the secret about my identity from his family the moment he brought me back, but now Alpha Marcus knew he couldn't avoid it.
“But why do you defend her, my king? She is nothing but a lowly servant," he grunted, and Alpha Marcus stared at him with disbelief stretching across his face.
My throat dried up due to terror.
"Then tell me," he ordered, a direct command, his voice sharp and deep, which sent a cold chill down my spine.
The room went still.
Alpha Zachary was on edge, and panic surged into my system, but I forced myself to remain still.
"Who the f**k did this to her?” Alpha Marcus' eyes widened in rage as I stared at him in shock and fear.
My throat tightened and I couldn't swallow.
"Sir, there is no one left in the titan wolf pack," Alpha Zachary spoke, his tone hinting at the fear he tried to hide.
My jaw tightened as I clutched my heart hearing the despicable words escaping his lips.
“And this justifies mistreating her?" He flinched at Marcus' rough voice, which radiated danger.
He looked at the members of the pack with deadly eyes.
“If the wealth belongs to Isabella, return it," he demanded, his voice cracking through the room like thunder.
Zachary was staring daggers at me. His eyes were filled with so much hate and bitterness.
Silence engulfed the room.
“But why do you aid me, Alpha King Marcus?" I asked in a timid voice with his eyes fixated on me.
“Years ago a plague struck; every pack turned away except for Titan Wolf," he said with concern in his eyes, patting my hand.
His touch was soft, which sent warmth coursing through my veins.
“Your father believed wolves stand united and one pack's pain is all pack's pain," he explained, his tone gentle.
“I was never worthy to be alpha king; Your father was the true leader," he declared, and tears filled my eyes upon hearing my father's name.
“This girl reclaims what is rightfully hers," he declared coldly with his wolf's anger directly at Zachary, and with a wave of his hand, my fortune box, which was laid in Zachary's palm, vanished and appeared on Alpha Marcus palm.
“Any objections?" He asked and gave the members of the pack the coldest look.
"None, my king," he answered, lowering his head.
“Your father was my mentor. Join my pack, child.
If trouble finds you, come to me," he replied, placing the fortune box in my palm.
Memories flashed in my mind, my chest tightened, and my wolf stirred restlessly as my hand came in contact with the fortune box.
Relief flooded my chest as tears streamed from my eyes, my fingers tracing the edges of the fortune box.
“Thank you, Alpha King, but my troubles are my own to bear," I answered, lowering my head.
Amelia looked at me with guilt flashing across her face.
Amelia stumbled towards me with desperation replacing her pride.
“Oh, Isabella, it was all a misunderstanding; I misjudged you. Our house will be nothing without you," she said hurriedly, forcing a smile.
I met her gaze, my expression blank as her words pierced my heart and soul like ice shards.
“Spare me your platitudes; I'm done with your family." My voice was calm, but every syllable carried my years of pain.
She looked at me in shock with a strange kind of fear filling her, knowing my identity mattered more than she thought.
Without anot
her word, I turned and walked away, leaving them to drown in the regret they had created.
